Textures going crazy on my new Imac!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got a new 24" Imac. I upgraded to the 256 video card. Things look awesome but textures on things are going absolutely insane. It seems like textures around me are bleeding on to things they dont belong on. My avi's image ended up tiled all over my fireplace. I( re installed the older viewer and things were ok for a bit but hey keep going nuts. HELP!!!!!!!!

IT sounds like you're asking for too much graphics detail, and the card is 'falling behind.'
try reducing the draw distance to 64 and lower the sliders for draw detail on things like trees, etc. Turn off water ripples, etc.

Thanks. I'll give it a try when things are back up on the grid. Thing is, my old G4 powerbook w/ a 1.66 processor and a slower ati video card never had these issues, even w/ draw set to over 200 at times. My new machine has a 256 nvidea ge force 7600 card in it and a bigone at that, doesnt make sense to me. :(

Also try setting the graphics card memory to 128.
This is an old problem...might be fixed in latest viewer...but then again...:rolleyes:

I have been experiencing similar problems on my new MacBook Pro. My "non-prim" hair and land textures suddenly starting to reflect other images from myscreen, including menus and desktop, the tiling looks terrrible on the mainland hills. This happens more when my laptop is warm/hot then otherwise.

i Followed all of sterlings tips. things have gottem way better. tweaking the graphics settiings made a huge difference

I noticed in my home--->library---->application support--->second life----->digit_darkes folder its writing all of these textures files.....so when you open My Accounts folder theres two files Texture list.xml and another called texture cache.??? and then inside the Cashe folder is a folder called textures with folders 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and these arealso folders full of random texture UI files...so this isnt normal but when the textures bug out like this thats what happens when I delete these files...its doesnt do it....BUT you have to delete them everytime because it comes back EVERYTIME...ITs sucks Ive tried everything

That sounds like the normal file structure for cached files...
whether its SL textures, bit torrent files, or web browser caches.

There's no 'harm' in deleting them and starting fresh each session, but it should only be necessary if you have a system crash, or if, for whatever reason, SL is breaking.

I flush my cache only if SL just REFUSES to play well. Longer than normal texture loads, avitars that remain gray after several minutes, etc.

I've been told by Lindens that this is a deficiency in my graphics card. :)

I have found that if I go to Advanced Graphics pref and change that anisotropic filtering (turn it off if i'ts on - on if it's off) it fixes things. This hints that the bug we are experiencing is one or more variables that are going whacko - but that get reset when this filter is toggled. I can't seem to make the case however. As a programmer myself, I typically use a variety of debugging tools to check things out rather than blaiming people's equipment.

btw - I am not sure that this workaround holds up under the latest version. nonetheless you are sure to get astounding results.

I've been getting the desktop tiling on all my textures lately, too, but when I toggle anisotropic filtering, although it fixes the initial problem, I get these puffs of color around everything that moves - most avatars are so shrouded in blue that I can't even see them.

I saw in another thread that someone solved the desktop tiling texture bug by setting their land, object, and avatar resolutions to low, so I guess I'll try that next. Hopefully if I do that and reset the anisotropic filtering back, the colorful clouds will clear up, too. Sigh.
