Hello all! Wow, so glad I found this forum. I just got a new Macbook that has the Intel Extreme video card which is listed on secondlife.com's system requirements as one that is incompatible with sl. I downloaded sl anyway and it of course freezes and my comp has to be rebooted every time. I called Mac Support and they were no help. Any thoughts on what I can do? Am I just out of luck here? I don't want to take my Mac back and get a PC, I love it too much. I have the middle version of the Macbook laptop. Thanks for any and all help or suggestions!

Sadly, it's just not going to work. Macbooks and SL are a bad mix. My MacBook Pro, with its GeForce 8600M GT, handles SL just fine (relatively speaking, as fine as SL runs on any Mac)... but your Intel Extreme card is straight out not going to run SL at all.
![]() I don't think there's anything you can do to make it work for you. Best of luck, though. |

I wouldn't expect it to work very well, but I expect it to work. Have you tried using preferences in SL to set your graphics down to the lowest level? That might make it workable (barely). If it does, then you can use [] Customize to slowly increase the things that are most important to you.
On the other hand, you can get a new or used MacBook pro, and hope SL/Apple get that mess fixed soon. _____________________

I wouldn't expect it to work very well, but I expect it to work. No... it straight out doesn't work at all. Here's what Linden has to say... ===== Second Life may not run on graphics/video cards other than the ones listed above. Unfortunately, if your graphics card includes any of the following words, it's NOT compatible with Second Life: - nVidia cards that report as a RIVA TNT or TNT2 - ATI cards that report as RAGE or RAGE PRO - ATI cards that report as RADEON 320M, 340M, 345M, or similar model numbers - Intel chipsets less than a 945 - Intel Extreme - 3DFX - RIVA - TNT - SiS - S3 - S3TC - Savage - Twister - Rage - Kyro - MILENNIA - most cards by MATROX ===== No stock MacBook can run SL as a result. |

Macbooks CAN run SL, the older GMA945's run it fine, in OS X or Windows.
The new ones with the x3100 cards CAN run it, and there are details online how you can hack SL to run on these machines. http://softwareblogs.intel.com/2007/11/29/there-is-a-hack-for-second-life-and-the-intel-965-chipset/ That will allow it to run, the performance isn't the best but it'll run. |
