With all the problems I'm hearing about here with MacBook pro & Sl, I still want one. ^^
But I'm curious if either of this specs would work any differently or at all with SL.
2.33 17" MacBook Pro 160GB HD-1GB RAM SYSTEM SPECS •2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor •17" TFT High Density Screen (1680 x 1050 res)...crystal clear and no dead pixels! •1 GB of RAM Memory...upgradeable to 3 GBs! •256 MB Graphics Memory Video Card (1680x1050)
or MacBook PRO 2.16ghz
Specs: Mac OS X 10.4.10
2.16ghz Intel Core Duo Processor
2gb of 667mhz DDR2 RAM
120gb 5400rpm Hard Drive
15in 1440x900 screen with gloss finish
ATi Radeon X1600 256mb Dedicated Video Memory
Any input is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks in advance. The MBP's with Radeon 1600 graphics have had few problems with SL, the MBP's with Nevidia 8600 graphics have a problem right now and no fix is in sight for over three months ( I own one and the lack of a fix worries me). As for screen size, bigger is always better!

Get one but...

Mac OS will run smoothly, wait a few weeks to get it with 10.5. Maybe it will fix the current graphic issue all 'santa rosa' macbook pro users suffer. Personnally, I tried to fix it several ways. 1 - run SL on mac osX with cache clearing 'FREQUENTLY' 2 - install Boot Camp, then XP,then SL and... WOW (not the game, just the expression of a nice surprise ), it runs perfectly with all graphic goody options ON 3 - run SL with VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop : errrr, doesn't work.

Question Negko, which MBP do you have? As for 10.5 fixing the MBP with 8600 graphics issue; other posters on this forum are running 10.5 Beta and reporting that it does not fix the problems ( although it is Beta). I am still worried about a fix ever happening! ( I mean it's been almost four months now)

Unfortunately, my MBP has a Radeon 1600 and i have been having the total system crash problem as well. It's been a little more managable since i unchecked the Enable Vertex Shading in the preferences box, i only crash every so often instead of regularly every 5 minutes, but it does still happen.

Tips from a new MacBook Pro user
10-01-2007 23:12
I just purchased a MacBook Pro 17" last July. Couple comments - Have at least 2 Gigs of memory Don't put the notebook on your lap while playing SL unless you want to have Grill marks (as in being on a barbecue). If you are going to use it as a desktop replacement would recommend using a Griffin stand with a USB muffin fan. The bottom gets really hot while playing SL and the internal fans kick into high gear. The stand and fan keeps your investment from overheating. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=7E4EB91E&nplm=TK651LL/Ahttp://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Technology-Mobile-External-Cooling/dp/B00080G0BK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-8097044-5040740?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1191304760&sr=8-1- Right now SL sucks on a MacBook Pro because of the video graphic driver issue causing the computer to halt and freeze up. We are all hoping that Leopard will be the saving grace for all these issues but I'm considering buy Windows XP with Leopard and running it in Boot Camp (Making a Windows Game machine). This is insurance if there still issues with SL on a MacBook Pro. I love my Mac and the Mac environment (viruses and spyware be damn). But I am also jealous of all the PC games on the market - Running bootcamp I can have the best of both worlds. Who would of guess Macs would be an awesome PC game platform.

I have the previous generation macbook pro, with the Radeon X1600 graphic card, and I have no problems running SL. However users with the latest macbooks pro with the GeForce 8600M GT are reporting crashes and lockups. The problem seams to be in the Nvidia driver that is currently shipped with OS X. The good news is that Poppy Linden found a workaround: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/MacBook_Pro_2007_Graphics_Freeze_WorkaroundI hope this helps some people. Meni

My MBP (15" with the ATI graphics) has been more or less OK with SL. I think two, maybe three crashes in the time I've had it. I do have 2gb memory in it though, so that might be a factor.

Grats on your new mac!
just don't drop it on concrete from about 3 feet right onto the corner with the superdrive. that sucks. You'll have to take my word for it, it really sucks.
