I have read many of these threads and I make sure to check for any listed potential temporary fixes for this whole MBP + SL client issue but find lots of scattered little tips. I would just like to know if someone or multiple someones can maybe write up a list of attempted Temp. fixes. Whether or not they work for everyone, just a few things I could or others could try. It would be nice to see a list of ideas instead of a bunch of threads talking about how bad this issue actually is. If there is already a thread floating around like that, My apologies and let me know where it might be. The crashing isn't so bad, I'm getting used to it but is constantly hard rebooting going to prove harmful to my system? EDIT: Wow, realized my topic title was a little funky.

As you may have read in the other threads; LL and Blizzard both think this is a Nivida, Apple driver issue, see the SL jiras or the WOW Mac fourms for the latest info.
The only work arounds that I know work are:
1. Use latest release preview client , pretty much reduces hard lockups, still get freeze ups.
2. toggle between full screen and window mode to reset graphic memory usage, (keeps you online for a few more minutes each time), (by the way toggling between view modes two or three times in a row sometimes helps more than once.
3. Use activity monitor, ( in aps folder, utilities, to monitor memory). Select system memory, my processes, then under VIEW pulldown, doc Icon, memory usage). this puts the pie chart of memory usage on you dock icon so you can see it anytime (just don't hide dock). When you are out of GREEN, you crash! Toggle view mode to reclaim available memoy
4. Write or call Apple and demand a fix.

That second option is interesting because my fionce has Mac Pro desktop and he was having crash issues with almost every game and it took a lot of frustration and such to realize that the g.card was TOO fast and running these games in full screen was also an issue. Which was laugh.
But thanks, I'm looking out for more. Even if its just to keep from locking up the whole system. SL crashing itself is not that big of a deal but constantly locking down the whole damn OS is getting to me. (I have a PC on the side that can run SL smoothly though its a whole 'nother issue dealing with the constant shutting off. Some problem with the battery I wont go into it.)

Hey, I'm not sure how many of you have been following the jira issue tracker but a fix has been found! https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/MacBook_Pro_2007_Graphics_Freeze_WorkaroundSeems for the time being you can use the opengl profiler to force Second Life to use an ATI x800 graphics driver. I tried it and it worked. The instructions may be a little cumbersome for the non-technical crowd, but basically you just need to make sure you bave your OS X dvd and install the Xcode tools from it. Then go to Apple's developer site and sign in with your Apple ID (iTunes id works) and you can download an update for the opengl profiler that allows it to work on the latest MacBook Pro's. Hopefully this will soon lead to a permenant fix that won't require hacking
