Copy/Paste bug between SL and Mac Apps?

Has anyone else had problems copying and pasting text between SL sources (Notecards, scripts, chat history, etc.) and Mac applicatiions (MS Word, text editors, etc.)? I asked for live help in-world, and Data Linden was unable to resolve it, and said it appeared to be a bug. So I've turned in a bug report, and all I got was a polite "Your report has been received. If you don't hear from us, consider it resolved." note in reply. Am I alone in this?

I'm using a Mac Mini, running Mac OS 10.3, and the current release of SL. Copy and paste *within* SL is fine. I can copy from a notecard to a script, for example. But I can't copy anything from a Word Document to any destination in-world. Paste remains greyed out, and it doesn't see that there is data on my clipboard. Same result when going outbound from SL. Copy something from a notecard, and when I go to paste it into Word, the Paste button is greyed out.

This has been particularly annoying when a friend in-world wants to give me a URL for something, but I can't copy and paste the URL into my browser.

It's also extremely aggrivating as I can't create spell-checked text for notecards (using Word) and paste it into the Notecard in-world, or work on scripts in Mac apps and then paste the work into a script in-world.

Strange, it works fine for me, in fact I code all my scripts in XCode and cut and paste between SL and Mac Apps all the time, I've never had a problem, I wonder if there's some hidden option in SL that disables it ?

Isn't anyone else seeing this? Am I the only one?

I've tried upgrading to 1.7.1(2) with a completely clean re-install, blew off my preferences and put up with all the annoying newbie dialogs. No change. I've talked to Live Help twice, and they are baffled.

I'm running Mac OS 10.3.9, SL 1.7.1(2), on a Mac Mini that should easily meet the minimum hardware specs.

On occassion I find that Command-A (select all) doesn't work in the chat textbox. It's not consistent.

I've seen lots of flaky focus issues -- mouse clicks that aren't 'heard' and Command-key combinations that don't always work.

Try using something other than MS Word !

For example XCode or Text Edit.

MSWord uses a clibboard format that's not recognised by SL.

That sounds right. I've never had any problem C&Ping between SL and BBEdit.

Bold text above is my emphasis...

*Blinks*

But I did...

Didn't I?

*Goes to other computer and checks...*

*Fires up Text Edit.
*Types a sentence and copies it.
*Fires up SL in a window, and opens a new note card.
*Paste...

O^o IT WORKED!!! YAY!

*Opens another note card and selects a bunch of text.
*Clicks on Text Edit and tries to paste...*

IT WORKED!

*HUG*

That is so strange! I wonder why MS Word can't trade clipboard info with SL? I'll pass that on to support, because the Lindens I dealt with on Live Help clearly were not aware of that incompatibility. Incidentally, there appears to be a similar problem then between SL and the Safari web browser, as I was also unable to directly copy a URL from SL and paste it into Safari.

Thank you very much, Laukosargas Svarog! I guess I hadn't tried Text Edit or BBEdit yet for this issue. You have solved the issue perfectly for me. 99% of the time I'll want to paste into BBEdit or something similar anyway, so I can do scripting work. And as long as I know about this work-around, I can always paste into Text Edit and copy back from there, if I want to get text into or out of MS Word.

hehe :D

you don't need Word, forget it, throw it in a dark corner, only bring it out on those odd occassions someone sends you a .doc ;)

Did you know spell checking is system service, it's available anywhere you can edit text.

eg: In Text Edit try turning on Edit/Spelling/Check spelling as you type.

( oh yes and then spend a year teaching it how to spell English words like "colour" ! )

GOOD LORD LAUK

MS WORD IS 2005 A.D. AND IT STILL DOESN'T DO THAT???

I remember MS Word 5.1 (already several generations in) on an old Mac LC-something.

It was botchy with copypaste. :(
