Second Life not connecting - "Waiting for Region Handshake" Timeout

Hi all,

I want to use Second Life (SL) on a Macbook Pro (late 2008 Unibody model) but can not get it to work. During the login process SL always gets to a point where it is "Waiting for Region Handshake" but after a couple of seconds times out and tells me that it is having problems and can't connect to the servers.
I ran SL from the Windows XP Bootcamp partition and that works without a problem. More interestingly I have an older Macbook Pro (2006 Core Duo model) and that gets past the Region Handshake without any problems and runs absolutely fine. Funny enough, both laptops run Leopard 10.5.6. The profiles on both machines have been created from the same old Tiger 10.4.11 profile (So I created a clone with SuperDuper, installed Leopard on both machines and then transferred my old Tiger profiles to the new Leopard installation with the Migration Assistant). That means that both machines should have very similar settings, just that one of them (the older one) runs SL and the other (newer) one does not.

The firewall is set to "Allow all incoming connections" and both machines are connected to the internet over the same network and router.

Does anyone have an idea what the reason for this problem is?

Thanks,

Faz

wow... your firewall is off, it works in Windows on the same machine, but not in OSX? I have no idea... I have a unibody MBP too, and it works great...

if you copied stuff over from a Tiger install, it may not work right on all machines.. with some of the SL settings. Just for a test you may try a complete reinstall of SL, including getting rid of the stuff it sticks in Application Support (were all the settings are saved), not just the .app file.

OMG. You totally saved me. I had quit PG but it was apparently still running in the background. Tricky!
