Mac Book Pro and Vista?

I have a new MBP 2.4 with 8600 graphics, read in this forum that some of you are running SL with Bootcamp and Vista with good results. What version of Vista are you using? home, business etc. and is there any one version that works better with the MBP?
Also any thoughts on using XP on this machine?

iMac, Vista, etc. -- MAC not compatible with SL- admit it!

Well, I downloaded bootcamp, installed Vista, home premium, because the iMAC I have was virtually not working at all anymore with SL, even though I have a very fast broadband connection. NEITHER MAC OS X or Vista WORK NOW!

Some here have suggested it is the Mac software that is/was the problem, so Bootcamp and Vista would solve things. Not true. Others have suggested it is because SL cannot handle the iMAC duo core processor...this appears to be the case because it is ovious that my problem is the hardware inside the Mac.

Previously, when I froze up, waiting 10 or 15 minutes would give me a connection that worked, at least for a little while. Now, 90% of the time after I log in, I am greeted with a completely frozen screen as far as movement is concerned (the camera still works..and the flexi hair still blows in the wind..go figure), am presented with a screen only 50% drawn, etc. In fact, I cannot use my iMAC at all any longer.

And there is nothing wrong with my iMAC, which continues to fuction perfectly in all other contexts. My old PC works fine (albeit very slow because of poor graphics card).

SL is not, fundamentally, compatible with MAC...Linden should be honest--or just fix it!

SL works great on both my shiny new MacBook Pro and my two-year-old dual core PowerMac G5. Never had a crash on either. It runs while I have Mail, Safari, iPhoto, Adobe Illustrator, Preview, Word, Blender, and iTunes all running at the same time. Not that I'm recommending that. But these things happen. It doesn't even mind when I check my stocks on a Dashboard widget on top of that. It doesn't mind when I haven't done a forced restart in two weeks. Heck, my G5 will often run for three months at a time with no sleep and no restart beyond what is needed for software updates.

My Macs are always running the latest software, they have a permissions repair at least once every couple of weeks, they have loads of RAM (the G5 has 8GB), and they have good video cards. Knock wood, but no SL/Mac problems here. Sure, I have in-game glitches, we all do, but no hardware/software issues.

iMAC and SL--RL$$ for a solution to my problem, lol

Well, Rusalka..some people have all the luck, I guess. Other than 2GB RAM instead of 8, I have a comparable system...and it just doesn't work.

It is really pathetic to see my old PC work when my big iMAC, better in every way re: hardware, is stuck in the water...sometimes virtual water in SL. Somewhere, someone, somehow would know what my problem is...but he/she has not yet surfaced, lol. Other online games function perfectly....just SL is the problem. Maybe this is an iMAC problem....but it is baffling and frustrating.

If there is a technical person out there who wants to make a quick $50 (not L$ , lol) I would happily gear up my PayPal for a payment transfer for the answer to this puzzle. I have already spent $300 (on the Vista) to solve it...to no avail.

Rusalka, the new MBP's with the 8600 graphics are haveing a real problem with SL,
Poppy Linden has two Jira's and a Radar report to Apple on the problems, the only workaround at the moment ( to avoid frequent crashes) is to run SL on windows under bootcamp and then SL runs ok,(according to others on this fourm).
I just want to know which version of windows is working for other MBP owners out there?

Here's all I can think: SL is the only game in my Macs' lives. Everything else is Apple, Adobe, and other big company programs. The only exceptions are a couple of small writing programs and Blender. And on the G5, three parallel computing projects running 24/7 on a BOINC manager. I don't play video games and I don't mess with the OS.

Rusalka, just to be clear abut this, what graphics card is in your Mac Book Pro? the ATI 1600 or the GeForce 8600 M GT?

I'd also like to know which graphics card is in the MacBook Pro that runs SL without any problems. I had an earlier MacBook Pro with the ATI graphics card and ran SL without problems as well.

Unfortunately, it died a horrible water death and had to be replaced.

Even more unfortunately, the new MBP I replaced it with - which has with a faster processor (2.4), more memory (4gb) and the newer nVidia graphics card - is completely unusable with SL (crashes regularly and takes down the OS / system).

I have loaded Visa Home Premium using Boot Camp and have found SL to be much more stable (I've had one crash - only the application - and it was a graphics card driver failure). The problems are that a) I don't like windows, b) almost all of my applications are for OS X so I can't use them while running SL, and c) the drivers for the new nVidia card in Boot Camp do not support external monitor resolutions above 1024x768 - so my 23" monitor is basically useless.
