Hi. I want to run Second Life in a computer lab of 12 computers. each student/faculty have a LDAP authentication and we use a login scrip and a localhome directory to secure their desktop space. When I load SL in admin or the main localhome directory, it works fine. When I login as a student, SL does not start and gives me an error message:

SL is unable to access a file it needs. You have may have multiple copies or the system incorrectly things a file is open.

I am assuming that i need to set R/W privileges, but not sure where to go.

I'm not familiar with exactly how lab machines would be secured.

SL will need to write to ~/Library/Application Support/

Here, it creates a directory called SecondLife and then creates other files and directories inside. There are some global settings for the application and by default things like the cache and chatlogs will be written here. Take a look in the xml configuration files for your working account. I'd also suggest that it would be good to have the cache on a local drive.
I'm not sure whether write access will be needed in any other directories.

Do you have different firewall or proxy server restrictions for students, if so that may cause a further problem when you do get the application to run.
Good Luck!
