Hello all.

I'm seriously considering switching sides and coming over to the MAC world. I currently have a Dell 30" monitor (their best) that I would like to use with my new MAC. (When I finally get it). Here's my two questions;

1. Does anyone know if the Dell 30" is as good as the MAC 30" monitor? My main concern is to get the best graphics possible.

2. Because of the 30" monitor issue, I'm considering getting a MAC Pro. Whats the best configuration for SL? Lets say,, a real 'Dream Machine'! teehee

Please feel free to off any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance for all responses.

Great to hear this, I'm thinking about doing the same thing. One thing to consider, however, is the spate of problems that MacBook Pro users have been having lately; other new Mac models have been more reliable with SL. Check out the rest of this forum. I myself am waiting for the next version of Mac OSX to come out (Oct. 26) and see how it works for others before I make the leap.

I know for a fact that the Dell and Apple 20 inch flat screen monitors use the exact same screen from the exact same factory. I suspect that the same is true for the 30 inch, but I don't know that for sure...sounds like a sweet screen though, just keep it.

Good luck!

I definitely won't be buying one in the next month or so. It'll be next year. Hopefully before the spring. I'm also curious to see if the new MAC OS has any positive effects. I definitely want which ever model I finally buy to work flawlessly with SL!!!!! That's a MUST!!!

next year, should have more options (mainly newer options) in the Mac Pro. If your wanting to spend that kind of money on a high end workstation, its a great machine. If you arent going to use most of its power, you might try for something else... a Macbook Pro or an iMac. Either can still use your 30" Dell fine (though the iMac wont be able to hit the max resolution), and you can set the 30"er as the primary monitor, and use the built in screens as a secondary.

Thanks for the input Missy. I'd rather stay with the Mac Pro and I don't mind spending a bit extra for a machine that evidently lends itself to being expanded so easily. I'll wait and see what's in the cards for the Mac Pro and Leopard after the holidays and definitely visit the Apple Store to hopefully trial one. (Maybe they'll let me temporaily load SL just to see how it preforms)

My leopard delivered today early this morning via fed ex! I was surprised didnt think it was supposed to arrive till later, Anyways I installed leopard and omg SL performs badly on it :/ It worked fine on the old os x, It seems that the new gaming engine for leopard is a big change and I think that SL needs to update their software to be more compatible. I am having problems where when I move it is like turning pages on a book! It's terrible!!!! I already converted back to the old os x with my recovery discs until I hear they have fixed this!

Wow,, what a lousy first report about Leopard and SL!!!! I'm still hoping that this all gets resolved by next spring at the latest. If not,,,, I guess I'll stay on the PC side of the fence for the forseeable future :(

I've been running SL in Leopard on my Macbook Pro, Core Duo 2ghz, 2gb ram, radeon x1600 256mb, it runs really nice, havent had any problems or slow downs yet.

Hmmmmm. It'll be interesting to see how this develops. Seems like the same scenario as when Vista was introduced. I still can't understand why SL is so,,,, tempermental,,, when it's run on other operating systems or configurations. You would think the Lindens would've addressed this issue as a top priority regarding universal ( or close to )compatibility.

Running SL on Leopard as well, and I can confirm it has some serious slowdowns when switching from SL to other applications, for 3-4 seconds at a time, during which the mouse goes all crazy, super sensitive and choppy in movement, hard to explain but heh :p
But I am not really concerned so far, I guess it still needs to be optimized for 10.5...

SL (Nicholaz Edition) + Santa Rosa macbook Pro + 10.5

... and so far, no crash, but I ran it only for a few minutes, not sure it would have been stable for an hour or... 10.
The macbook is a dual 2 2.4 GHz with 2GB Ram and the very famous NVidia 8600 MGT.
I will try the onrez client and post a report as soon as crashed (replace with 'tested').

For the indiana jones of the mac & SL, here is the link.

OK, I tested the onrez viewer on Leopard and it... crashes after a few minutes.

Too bad, the UI is really well designed.
I will run it on XP then.
