I am considering buying a iMac 3.6Ghz core duo, 2MB, geforce 8800 GS . Before i commit i would like to make sure it will work with SL which is one of its main purposes.

I've read on this forum quite a lot of negative comments regarding lock up and crashes and am wondering is this typical of this hardware combination or are there many users out there that run SL very successfully on imacs with a 8800 GS without any problems.

Im currently running SL on a mid level PC using a Nividia 8600 card and am happy with the performance, so im hoping the mac would be at the same level or better. I have a few crashes and a bit of lag when its busy, but the current PC set up works well.

Since getting a macbook and ive a bit of a mac convert and dont want to really buy another pc again.

Thanks

Ep.

That iMac should run SL as well as SL can be expected to run. :)

Should be fine.

SL crashes quite rarely on my MBP, but I'm absolutely disgusted with the bad overall graphics perfomance. Needless to say, this only happens with SL and is the only reason that I still have a Windows partition. Apart from SL, I'm more than satisfied with MacOSX and my MBP.

I wouldn't be so sure.
Unluckily SL client is optimized for Windows, there's no escape.
You could even get an 8-core Mac Pro, but the problem would remain.
(unless you install XP or Vista on the Mac Pro, obviously)

I hope you don't miss your poor old pc too much.
Good luck.
