What are the main advantages? Can I restore the main client if I had problems? And does it work after an obligatory linden client update? Thanks Luca |

It appears that this is only usable if your Mac has an Intel chip in it. If you're on PPC, it won't work. The initial article claims it is a universal binary, but later comments on the site indicate it is Intel Mac only.

Is it safe? What are the main advantages? Can I restore the main client if I had problems? And does it work after an obligatory linden client update? Thanks Luca I understand that after each mandatory linden client update, the Beresford client must be revised to suit. Hence, the one in the url is no longer any good. We'll have to wait for an update. |

Good news! I just tested the release "Q" version of the Mac patches, and they DO work on non-Intel Macs! I am running it now on an original-issue Mac Mini. I'm not seeing any frame rate improvements, but it sure is nice to be rid if the cumbersome Chatterbox UI!

I ran the q on my Macbook Pro and it seems to be much more stable, so far. I played for over two hours without crashing or locking up at all. Thank you for making a Mac version!!

I have a G5 PowerPC 2.0 tower with a modest video 64MB nvidia card. I installed this client last night and tried it. OMG! This is WONDERFUL! I am now able to set long distances, stuff rezzes WAY faster and better, temp show names actually works, it remembers your disable camera constraint setting between sessions, I can walk in a straight tline, I dint notice any key or mouse clicks disappearing... I could go on and on but the bottom line is this - if you have a Mac get this! It will make you smile. A lot. The install couldnt be any easier, just have the release client mentioned, download the patch, dubble click the mounted patch, choose yer release client and yer done.
I had the RC mentioned - so as not to mess anything up I duplicated it and used the duplicate to apply the patch to. After an hour of useing the new patched client I chucked the old one in the trash where it belongs. YAY!! |

I'm using it with Mac OSX Leopard on a Mac Pro 2ghz with 5gb ram - second life viewer is dog slow (have to turn off animations and pull quality right down). So far with OnRez, its really good and loads faster, hardly any jerkiness.
Highly recommended. |
