Hello all, I hope this question hasn't been answered before...

Basically, I am on an iMac G5 1.8 GHz with 512 mbs, and every time I use SL after a random point in time the software simply freezes and remains completely unresponsive forcing me to Force Quit the application.

I have emailed support about this problem but the advice I was offered has had no effect and I am not waiting for further assistance from them... (which is slow in coming).

Have any other Mac users had this problem and if so does anyone know of a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Have you contacted Support with this problem? And if so have they given you any other advice apart from uninstall/reinstall and clear cache?

I'm also having this. Quite often it'll freeze for 5-10 seconds, and then come back to life and be just fine. Occasionally, it doesn't come back to life and I have to Force Quit.

So you aren't alone - but I can't move the discussion any further because I haven't contacted support, and don't have an answer :-/

What happens if you give it 10 or 15 seconds? Mine freezes a lot, but it always comes back.

More Memory....

Try adding more memory.... preferably alot more. Say, upwards to 2GB. Also, what is the power supply wattage on the iMac 1.8? I think it is 450 watts. If so, that should be OK.

Adding extra memory should help.

I have contacted support, but their only advice was to uninstall and clear cache.

Which hasn't helped.

Adding more memory seems like a extreme solution to be honest seeing as according to SL's System Requirements I already have enough memory to run the software.

It's been doing this for months. I think 1.9.x was the last version to not do this.

I have found however that booting from a clean install of 10.4 with nothing else installed will make the problem go away. Clearly it's conflict with something.

Someone could probably figure this out but I just quit playing SecondLife as much. And since LL can't keep their database in their pants, I'm playing even less now.

This problem's been rampant to a greater-or-lesser extent since 1.10, yet another significant Mac client bug left ignored in our legacy of attrition.

Maybe more RAM will help; I haven't bumped up beyond 1 gig yet. If I do, and it goes away, I'll post here to let everyone know. Assuming we still have a Mac Discussion forum.
