got windlight working after deleting all secondlife files
11-17-2007 23:31
Ok, deleted my files, windlight works (going thru the annoying popups that treat you like a noobie). But, after a while it hard crashes the system. never had an app do that ever. everything gets locked up can't force quit the app. have to actually reboot the G5 to start it again I tried several times running windlight client, same thing happens after a while, hard crash. Its a bit scary to have that happen on a mac. anybody have that problem?

all the time..

I've been hard crashing on my MacBook Pro 2.4GHz 2GB memory for the last 4 updates it seems. Second Life unexpectedly quits on me every time I select MID quality for Windlight, and if I select HIGH or ULTRA, my avatar goes invisible and I start moving 1 frame per every 2 seconds, and most recently, I freeze and everything goes black and white stripes unless I revert to the default LOW Windlight settings. I'm going to try deleting this folder everyone's talking about and see what happens, but I've had to force restart my computer almost every time I've logged on SL over the last couple of months.. same thing happens with Windlight only it runs so unbearably slow, I don't use it long enough for the crashes to start up.
I've been a bit frustrated with these problems since my powerbook seemed to work fine. I was thinking it was a mac problem but the more I read the more I'm convinced LL needs to get on their game for the mac users.

Are any of you able to a crash-log from when this happens? Go into your user-folder then look under Library/Logs/CrashReporter and see if there is one for Second Life. Open it up and see if it is from when you crashed, if so then just paste it here and I can take a look to see if I can find the offending code =)

windlight better
11-20-2007 13:11
Oddly, I'm having much better performance on my MacBook Pro and 12" G4 PowerBook with the Windlight First Look than I am with the non-Windlight production version.
If I'm going to do long term SL, I still Boot Camp into WinXP, unfortunately, on my MacBook Pro, not the PowerBook, obviously.
Edit: What version of the OS are you using? I'm on Leopard 10.5. I haven't updated to 10.5.1 which I understand has issues, so I"m waiting til the next point release. But after upgrading to 10.5, I did see some improvement. On the same day I upgraded to 10.5, I also installed a new Airport Extreme wireless router. So maybe with the new OS, the new router, and Windlight, I achieved some kind of apotheosis...

it is equal what machine or what Mac system you use. also the SL version is. It is all the same - major crashes !! I never had any program before that causes crashes so constantly. But also the windows versions are buggy. So what

I havent really crashed in Windlight, but cant say I've used it for extended periods. It has this weird bug of many objects staying invisible and not rendering or rezzing at all for me. seems to be completely random, and usually in large amounts that its useless.

I was in windlight yesterday and items disappeared after zooming. I read that this was a bug. Downloaded the new version this morning and it will not even start up. I have a macbook pro running tiger.

I have the same issue. It's kind of comforting to know it's not just me, and I didn't break something.
I'm running OSX 10.4.11 (haven't upgraded to 10.5 yet), so I don't think it's a 10.5 specific problem. I'm thinking of trying the "delete your SL folder and try again" trick. Being that you guys are still experiencing issues with it though, I don't know if it's worth the trouble.

I am running 10.4.11.
I have reverted to the previous version of the straight version because the crashes were too frustrating.

The last two releases of the Windlight viewer have just crashed straight to desktop after showing me the release notes (at each attempt to start) on my Mac Pro... But, the beginning of this behavior may have just possibly coincided with me upgrading to Leopard The plain vanilla SL client is *much* crashier than normal in Leopard for sure, I randomly crash when teleporting or just swinging the camera about. Also getting some odd big flashing grey or black or pattern textured triangles, just now and then, after a teleport sometimes. I'm on 10.5.1, with an added ATI X1900XT vidcard. Any suggestions, would be pleased to hear them. I too wondered about deleting my SL application support folder....hmmmm Humm, maybe I'll try rebooting into Vista and running it, though it grieves me to do so *Update* yeah Windlight works under Vista, *sighs*, as you americans say..'go figure' I guess the problem is Leopard.

latest version much better for me
12-18-2007 10:04
The current First Look Windlight 1.18.6.7562 is working much better on my MacBook Pro ATI Radedon X1600, 10.5.1.
- hardware graphics memory slider now works correctly - land textures render correctly unless vertex shading is on - 15-16 FPS at Low graphics setting
I had a SL stall (beachball spin) on a sim with a LOT of rendering, in Highest graphic setting.. but other than that it worked well.

hmm... anyone else tried the newest Windlight version? I haven't made any more attempts in a few weeks, but if the new version is working (allegedly) than I'd definatly give it another go.

I crash occasionally when TPing. Sorta rare. I crash often when quitting. It shows the logging out progress bar and then locks up hard. If I do force quit two times in a row, the application will close. I've been sending bug reports everytime it asks. Kinda annoying. As long as it doesn't crash on startup or while I'm in world, I'm not too bothered by it.
[EDIT: I'm using a 12" 1.5GHz G4 Powerbook with 10.4.11 if that matters any.]
