Hi - Trying to avoid laggy performance in MBP Core 2 duo 2.4 Ghz I was trying to alter the TextureMemory setting under Advanced/Debugging settings to 512 but it forces the figure back to 128 no matter what I do. My OS version is 10.5.6 and SL viewer is Second Life Server 1.26.4.120562. I read about this in the net but have not found a fix. This clearly is a bug and it is funny that changing the TextureMemory setting to be 512 was given as cure for certain MacBookPro/SL problems but this cure seems to be imposible to implement as the number forces itself back to 512. Know what I should do, anyone? WI

The Mac versions are set to not use more than half of the VRAM to leave some for Quartz Extreme. But you can change this by going into your user Library/Application Support/Second Life/user_settings/settings.xml and changing the value of RenderTextureMemoryMultiple to 1.0.

Hi, Seric,

- So is that a wise thing to do then, or not? I mean
changing that RendTextMemMultiple to 1.0 ?

...As just being able to do it does not necessarily mean
that one should.. So will it hurt not to have some
left for that ..Quartz Extreme...whatever that is - or
is it ok to alter that setting?

Setting it to 1.0 just lets you set the texture memory level to max if you want to; it removes the automatic resetting. If you use too much SL will run pretty slow as VRAM starts having to swap textures in and out. So you can keep going up until you notice performance loss and back off some. On my system QE uses about 40MB VRAM.

Can you set RenderTextureMemoryMultiple in the Debug Settings?

Yes you can, it's under the key RenderTextureMemoryMultiple.
