I downloaded the upgrade and installed it in my applications folder. I deleted the SecondLife folder in Library/Application Support. I started the SL viewer and it crashed within 5 seconds, without getting beyond the "Loading..." display. No improvement whatsoever.

Rachel Update: Now my previous workaround (running SL from a different OS X user account) no longer works. SL crashes on both user accounts. This fix has made things worse.

Here's a stab in the dar you might like to try (It worked for me in other circumstances). Backup the file /Applications/Second Life.app/Contents/Resources/skins/xui/en-us/panel_login.xml - VERY IMPORTANT!
The load it into a text editor and remove the lines that say:
<web_browser name="login_html" left="0" right="-1" top ="-1" bottom ="0" follows="top|left|bottom|right" border_visible="false" start_url="data:text/html,%3Chtml%3E%3Chead%3E%3C/head%3E%3Cbody bgcolor=%22#000000%22 text=%22ffffff%22%3E%3Ch1%3E%3Ctt%3Eloading...%3C/tt%3E%3C/h1%3E %3C/body%3E %3C/html%3E" />
It seems to disable the fancy new login screen, which may be the cause of the trouble.

I am having a ton of problems with the update, for one my avitar will just teleport while I am walking and I am getting alot of server connection losess at least I think its that because I wont be able to move which is said to be a loss of connection to one of the servers. I had no problems before doing this update.

It seems to disable the fancy new login screen, which may be the cause of the trouble. This worked. Perfectly. Why didn't the Lindens think of it? LINDENS: In the Mac client, forget the fancy login screen: delete these lines from the code!! At the very least, for God's sake, don't screw up this workaround in next Wednesday's "upgrade". Thank you ever so much, Christine Montgomery. I will name my first-born child after you. Rachel

My work around
11-17-2006 17:59
I get the crash before login as well. I am able to log in with my flat panel iMac G4 set at 256 colors, and then switching to thousands of colors After log-in. Silly SL!
