I uploaded the new viewer, replaced it even and my laptop is LOUD, processors going at full speed, HOT HOT HOT also. I turned everything down also, shaders, terrien, local lights. Anyone else having this problem? I did go revert back to 1.22, is there a post to go back to old viewer? And yes I have played on this laptop for three years.

Did they even test this veiwer out on Macs? This happened one other time also.

ever since I updated to viewer 1.23 I have had nothing but problems. I'm on a mac as well, but things are running SO slow it's ridiculous... I can barely TP anywhere, and I'm continually getting logged out. WTF? does anybody know what's up w/ this?

Driving me crazy

I had no issues either until the update. Now things stay shaded grey forever. They will finally come in but if I walk away and return? Guess what, they are grey again. I have found settings online once that worked GREAT! Now I can't find them again. If anyone has any luck, please share!

I went back to the previous viewer and am having no issues. Not gonna update until they fix the bugs with this one.

I've had the same problems (running SL on my iMac Core2Duo 2.16Ghz/3GB-Ram), with older viewers it was pretty fast and no problems, then - I think it must started with the 1.2x-Viewers - it begins to get slower, rezzing sculpties lasts long (sometimes, they rezzed not), textures loading was terrible...

Now, with the 1.23 it was real terrible, waiting some minutes to see everything became normal, then - when turning arround and back - all was loaded new... Not funny...

I switched with bootcamp over to windows, tried SL and... it was fine... after some research in my settings I found the only difference: I told SL at OSX to use "multiple threads", unchecked it and *whow* textures are loading fast, sculpties are rezzing fast, all is okay...

With earlier viewers it works pretty fine with this option, seems that there must be changed something?! Maybee you also use this option? Try it, uncheck it... It works pretty fine since then for me :)

Where do you find multiple threads?

You must enable the "Advanced"-Menu (press ctrl+alt+d) - then go to
Advanced -> Rendering and there you find "Run Multiple Threads"

Thank You Gandalf

That helped performance quite a bit. I guess the browser isn't built to be optimized for mac. Oh well.

SNOWGLOBE VIEWER so far so good!

Yeh, the last SL upgrade is a snail on my 17", 1.67mghz, 2ram gettin' old Powerbook.
BUT! I checked out Linden's venture into the Open CL viewer called SnowGlobe which is downloadable on the SL blog, and was more than pleasantly surprised. Frame rate improved over 75% in my case, with textures and settings that I had long given up on. Even with distance set at 250m with settings at medium, the performance still endured. (on recent upgrade standard viewer my frame rate was really bad even at the lowest settings.)

PC user friend uv mine also tried it and saw an improvement of over 10 frames per sec even using two alts and windows. Definitely a go see viewer for mac users more than disappointed with the latest "upgrades".

It's called "Release Candidate" and you can test it yourself and report problems before they make it to the standard viewer.

Which means that the problems you report make it to the standard viewer, anyway, he he.
