MacPro running Windlight: 3fps?!?

I am running a relatively new MacPro, purchased this past August, running OS 10.4.9 with 1GB of RAM and a RadeonX1900 graphic card. I was running Windlight beautifully until this mandatory update, and now it is impossible to run. I get about 2-3 frames per second, no exaggeration, which makes it unusable.
Do i REALLY need to update my hardware already?!?

Edit: I played with the settings a bit. Oddly enough, if you go into preferences--->graphics--->check "custom"

If you uncheck and then recheck the atmospheric shaders that seems to bring it back to normal. I don't know why that worked but it fixed the issue on my MBP.

I've posted in a couple of other threads on the issue with MBP and SL in general. I have found the Mac Windlight client more stable in general, esp for my 12" Powerbook that doesn't benefit from the enhanced graphics.

But for day to day SL use, Boot Camp dual booting into a Windows XP partition is what I've chosen to do. SL is plenty fast under XP on this hardware. I tried Parallels and had the same lockups/freezing issues, so drastic times take drastic measures.

I want nothing more than to see the Mac client come to full partity with the Windows client. I love my MBP and the Mac OS. If there is some Mac beta testing group, I would love to know more about how I can get involved and help out.

Edit:
I spel gud.

Mac Pro Tower or Mac Book Pro?

The Mac Book Pro has had a lot of video card driver related issues reported here. Haven't yet heard problems relating to the Mac Pro Tower, but the card you cite doesn't sound like one of the options Apple offers for the tower, so I am guessing you meant the laptop Mac book Pro.

Just a quick heads up, the Radeon X1900 is a BTO option at the Apple Store for the Mac Pro (Radeon X1900XT to be precise).

You're right. My error. And that card uis the second best one that Apple offers with their top-of-the-line Mac Pro Tower, too! Geeze, they REALLY need to fix the Mac client. Looks like when I get a Mac Pro Tower myself, I better budget for a copy of WinXP to run under Bootcamp...

I have had the exact same experience with my Macbook Pro (I posted in the other topic).

The recent windlight worked great until the mandatory update crippled it to lower than 1 fps. I didn't change any settings at all between updates, and I hadn't already switched off any cool stuff. They did something in the update that screwed up on some Macs.

OSX 10.4.10, ATI graphics, Macbook Pro 2.33.

Try turning off "hardware skinning" in custom preferences. This boosted FPS for me under Windlight.
