Forum Problems with Tiger Upgrade?

I just upgraded to MacOS 10.4 Tiger and the forum colors seem to be off. I was curious if anyone else has this same problem too. Specifically, the background color of the table cells that contain posts have been turned dark. The color of the background now matches the color of the text making it impossible to read posts.

To read things, I have to highlight the post text, which changes the background color.

I remember seeing a post about this problem a few days ago. Let me see if I can find the entry...

No answers here, but at least you have company and Robin alerting the troops.

It appears the browser doesn't like the way the forum's HTML calls for individual cell background images. All the Lindens have to do is change the background color to something better fitting the missing graphic and you Tiger users should be good to go.

Thank you so much for the info! It does seem like it should be an easy fix. :)

If you want to make the forums readable until they get around to fixing it you can override the style with a little bit of user CSS.

If you are already using a userContent.css with Safari, just add this to it:
CODE

.alt1, .alt1Active
{
background-image: none ! important;
background-color: #fff ! important;
}

If you aren't here's how to start:
1. Save the attached userContent.txt file somewhere convenient. I recommend Home/Library/Safari
2. Rename userContent.txt to userContent.css (vBulletin does not allow .css attachments)
3. Open your Safari preferences and on the Advanced panel find the Style Sheet selection dropdown.
4. Choose "Other..." from the drop down list and navigate to the userContent.css you just saved.

You shouldn't need to restart Safari as it will apply the changes immediately.

Ulrika,

While you're at it, could you check out my forums please? I just went through a major upgrade today and would like to know how it performs on the Mac. Thanks :)

omfg, bless you, Cienna. You're wonderful. :)

I've been reduced to reading the forums by hitting select-all and using the highlight color to bring out the text. :D

The homepage, Snapzilla, and the forums look perfect. The RSS feeds look brilliant in the new Safari RSS too!

Bub fixeth.

Bub taketh away (blue backgrounds, that is).

If you're still getting the blinding blue background, try refreshing or clearing your cache.

If the problem still persists, drop a line in this thread.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?

I second that! Thank you Cienna - I've been reduced to using IE, (even worse than hitting select-all and changing the color). :p

Ok 1.6.6 fixed the database now on to the real issues.....
05-31-2005 22:05
The real thing that needs to be adressed on the Mac client is platform specific code. Specifically Linden Labs needs to get on the Open GL and Quartz GL gravy train as well as make full use of the velocity engine in coding the Macintosh SL client. The Apple WWDC June 6 2005 needs to be attended by coders and reps of SL in order to get the necessary code to enable Quartz GL/Quartz Extreme 2d as well as proper Open GL code, rather than bloody quickdraw. Get up to date Lindens Quickdraw is deprecated (not being further developed) in Tiger, and Quartz Extreme 2D is MUCH faster in Tiger than quickdraw anyway. It is the 2d rendering that is killing the Second Life client and it HAS to be that stinking quickdraw code. There just isn't going to be any performance gains on the Mac side until proper code is inserted. I have said it other places and I'll say it here. While Linden Labs has stated their source code is portable, that does NOT mean that it is optimized. If SL is serious about ever building a Linux client they need to do the Mac OS X client first as likely that code will be more optimized as well as portable for Linux. So lets get it done! Apple will GIVE you the code to optimize the SL Mac OS X client at the 2005 WWDC. You can't lose this way.
Now that 1.6.6 has done away with the Inventory items and database issues the real issues are apparent in the Mac OS X client, namely the 2d rendering and the Open GL code could likely use some optimizing and cleaning up. As it is I'm getting 1gb Ram for my new 1.42 ghz Mac Mini shipping this week, and I may well also get an external 7200 rpm drive and offload my software to that rather than deal with the slower 4200 rpm laptop hard drive. But for SL to not offer optimized software in a release client is not forgiveable. The database issues can be forgiven but seriously this is supposed to be release software NOT betaware. SL will NOT run in Tiger with 512mb ram and that ought to be stated that a minimum of 1gb Ram is required in Tiger. Now that will keep the Linden coders busy getting something correctly done-rather than the betaware they have been offering as release software.
