Hi all Im a very new Designer, improving every day And thats why i work all the time as much as i can inhere and practise, im a RL artist and teacher so i can only do this in between hours and when ever students got ill or something...and i have time off, thats why it needs to work quick and easy without any hassle, thats why im on a Apple computer instead of the allways crashable ugly things I really enjoy creating and building and design the things in my head....like painting So i need to start up as quick as i can if i have one of these ideas yc, or made in PS and want to upload it.Since the last update it takes me ages to start the thing up.......really annoying, pain in the you know what... (*finally when it starts... it is within a sec slowing and things won't rezz, im half seenthrough and so are my friends,...only shoes or something... in the usual sandbox areas where i go to it is even worse. but my question was does anyone else has this trouble to? or is it my sweet mac or her connection? well nice to meet you all (*mac passionists!) inhere and thank you for your time, love, Wendy WHS at Reasonable Desires wendyhulasl@yahoo.com

I've found it takes a big longer to upload larger files. That said, I've never had it take more than a minute or so, (which can seem like ages on SL, I know lol). But that's really just the way it is, I believe.

Check out your preferences, and see if you're asking too much of your video card and memory...I was before (using an '04 eMac 1.25GHz), and reduced my requirements (shut of "shiney", reduced the number of particles, etc, etc - all within Preferences)
Something very interesting, however - I just upgraded my RAM from 256MB to 1Gig, and my performance has improved dramatically...nothing to compare to the machina videos we all see of Second Life (I wonder what systems those folks are running?), but I can fly across a sector, and actually have things rez to some degree as I cruise along (not something that happened before - I'd enter "clear" land, then wait, and slowly watch everyone's wonderful constructions appear piece by piece)
So - if any of this sounds like something you've been experiencing, try reducing your requirements on your current system, or perhaps upgrade your memory if you can.
Hope that helps.

Couple of hints that I've found help, but first, it always helps us to know what kind of Mac you are running. G4s can barely run SL, G5s can run it OK, but the code is definitely optimized for Intels. - Load your system with as much memory as possible
- Try reducing the amount of Video RAM you are using by one step. (i.e. if your system has 128 MB VRAM, set it to 64 MB) This is particularly helpful if you have Ripple Water turned on
- The larger your cache, the longer it takes to start up. If your bandwidth is high enough, turn down your cache. This also sometimes helps load textures better. I sometimes even turn it as low as 50 MB. (I tend to tweak this a lot while online.)
- Add ~/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/cache to your Spotlight Privacy list in System Preferences. This will keep Spotlight from indexing your cache files, which seemed to cause a hit during startup/shutdown. ("~" means in your home directory.)
These are some things I've found help in the most recent version, based on posts and my personal experience. I'm running on a MacBook Pro with 128 MB VRAM and 2 GB RAM. If any of these help, please confirm them. More importantly, if you find that any of these hurt, definitely let us know!
