I just inhereted my brother's iMac G5 with MacOS 10.3.6. I keep having all kinds of problems trying to run SL, it just keeps beachballing on me half the time or it crashes altogether. I can't afford to upgrade to Tiger right now, is anyone else running SL on 10.3?

My machine is the 17" 1.6ghz iMac G5 with 1 gb of memory, with a Geforce fx 5200. Other stuff runs fine, I mainly run Quicksilver, Growl and Adium all the time with no problem, also play World of Warcraft (which plays but kind of slow) with them running. SL just doesn't want to run for some reason.

Help! :-)

I suspect the problem isn't so much which version of OSX you're running, but the Nvidea 5200 graphics card you have. It's listed in the Known Issues Forum as a card that has particular problems running SL.

Are you having the texture flashing issues it describes? I've used a friend's PowerMac with the same card and it crashes several times in an hour, especially when different textures are abundant -- he's basically given up trying to be in-world for very long until he can install a new graphics card.

You run what you have. What you can afford.

I've yet to have an issue with SL running on an FX5500 256MB PC version with Mac FX5200 ROM. I never bothered to bump the card back up to FX5500 speeds so it is under clocked but never and issue with SL.

I too suggest you upgrade to 10.3.9. It's free. Sure it'll take you about an hour and several reboots but I can't imagine you regretting it.
