Hello there,

Although I though it was my personal (language keyboard) issue, I would try to ask you.
Can you use shortcut for Snapshot to Disk? I think it is the back tilt, "`". I don't use US keyboard and it is located at the next to "p" key. I can type it but not for the shortcut.
Or does anyone who uses non-US keyboard find another key for it?

I'm not sure which specific keyboard you're using, but the ~ key is the upper-left-most key on a US 101+ keyboard, immediately under ESC, left of the number 1, and above TAB.

Thanks for replying, Lee. :)

Yes, I know the US keyboard rayout, but my keyboard's one is this.
BTW, is the shortcut of Snapt to disk "~", not "`"? hmm... anyway, it doesn't work. :(

If the character you are looking for is this ` you can generate the character by holding alt and typing 0096 which is the characters code... it works OK if you want to put it in some sort of text document but I don't know if you can get it to work as a shortcut.

Yow, that is a head scratcher. Could it be the character above the "@"? Also, there are certain conditions that have to be met before the shortcut will work. First, the chat window has to be turned off, second you have to first take a picture then send it to the disk using the shortcut.

What you are looking for is called "Grave Accent" which is alt+0096 (unicode U+0060). If you are using a Mac, I haven't a clue but maybe you can figure it out using character map. It is also possible to remap a key to use this symbol if your keyboard doesn't have it although I couldn't imagine what you would want to give up. You can Google for a method to remap a key, its been years since I have done it.

Another thing I believe you could do in the meantime would be Ctrl-Shift-S, which will bring up the little dialog box w/picture preview each time but will still get your snapshots... snapped.

Thanks everybody,

Cliffy, I don't looking for the character and I knew it was the next to P key. And I can type it but it cannot work as the shortcut.

Kathmandu, hehe I know you don't believe such a keyboard. Yes, ASCII code 0096 is correct. It located the next to P key on my Mac keyboard. I can type it but can't use as the shortcut.

Torley, yeah, I know it and I always uses it. But I feel it is messy to press a button each time when I take a snapshot. I wanted to use that shorcut.

I can type it and the code is right. So even if I change any key layout, it won't work.
On Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, we can change other application's menu shortcut at the configuration panel. If the application doesn't allow it, it will open alart when you change it. Surprisingly, SL allowed it. I could set up shortcut without any caution.
But it doesn't work, damn. :(

Seagel, very quickly, I'm wondering, how costly are new keyboards where you are? The reason is because I know I have seen extended, Japanese-layout-compatible keyboards that do have an ` key. If this is an option, might this be the easier way to go? USB... just plug-and-play, maybe install drivers and you're ready to go? ;) For example:

If you can type out the character and it comes up correctly in the chat window then you have very few options. SL may likely base it on the unicode symbol code u+0060 and that may be associated with another symbol on your keyboard. Question is, does the shortcut work for American keyboards on the Mac? I don't know myself.

Torley, very quickly? You mean Ctrl-Shift-S thing? hehe it might be.
I didn't think I would buy a new keyboard because of such a shortcut! :D
Seriously, I will examine it.

Kathmandu, yes, I can type it. ```````````````````` Hehe. Like this.
Hmm.. unicode... I'll look for another way until I buy a new keyboard or give up. :p

Reporting... ;)

I scoured keyboards. It has two codes, keycode and ASCIIcode.
Software makers don't use keycode because it depends on each keyboard.
I checked ASCIIcode of my key "`" by using this software. It was surely 96.
Katumandu said, SL uses unicode instead of ASCIIcode. Yes, it was a new feature of version 1.6. But I don't think it can be wrong because both Windows and Macintosh use the same unicode, 60 (Hex) as much as I consulted some pages.
So I wonder what is difference. I think it is weather it is had to use Shift key or not.

Although I can allocate "Shift + @" which is for my typing "`" for some key, but it doesn't work. I have to remap the key layout by some low level. uControl could do that until OS Panther, but I'm now using Tiger. :(

SL should support the shortcut carefully in case of using Shift key.
Or SL should support "@" as a shortcut of Snap to Disk for me! :D
Or SL should support changeable shortcut of application by Tiger's new feature.
Or I should buy a new US keyboard. :p
