I have just recently bought an iMac. It meets all the recommended specs on the system requirements page and even above some. (Processor speed 2.66GHz, 2G of RAM, Radeon 2600 PRO video card.)

Using Second life, I am experiencing a long wait for the land I am on to appear as it should. (Not blurry, no grey unloaded objects, etc.)

Any way I can fix this? I have a brand new computer and it should be working fine

Long time meaning over 2-3 minutes for it to load everything so it looks decent. I've tried it with a cabal and wireless internet with full connection. My character moves fine with no lag, it's just the objects that take awhile to fully load.

hey!

as with every 3d game load time depends on data fetched to your machine
the more data per sim the higher the load time, its also depends on sim ping and your bandwidth

+objects (triangles per object)
+textures (amount/size)
+scripts (code)
+players (arc/scripts/attached objects)

most sims / player models are far away what i will call optimized for "3d online gaming"

I've found that this (long time to rez initial environment) has been a lot more common lately. I usually load fine but for some reason one of the latest few server updates seems to be sending objects really slowly, when the do arrive they load fine as I already have textures etc., but it can be several minutes before my environment is fully visible, leaving me with a home that looks like some band-selected a chunk of it and deleted it. Which I'm very paranoid about having done it myself accidentally in the past :)

I'll ask a dumb question: what draw distance do you have set?

I keep mine at 96m. Although it can take awhile (call it a minute) depending on how detailed the sim is, it renders things relatively quickly. If I crank up my distance, it can take a VERY long time to try and rez everything within visible distance, and doesn't always rez the stuff that's closest to me first, meaning I am surrounded by gray walls for a long time while it's showing me some skybox in the distance.

Anyway, turn down your draw distance in your SL graphics preferences, if you haven't done so yet.

This past week everywhere in SL has been taking an extremely long time to load for me.
Stores will never rez, the images keep grey for about 15 minutes.

I was thinking it might be my ISP somehow slowing my connection to the LL servers as all other internet is moving at my normal 700kb/s speed.
When sl is downloading sim data its only using 25 to 100kb/s.
I tested the speed in windows XP via bootcamp and everywhere seems to load pretty quick and normally.
It's happening in all the clients i use, 1.18.3, 1.19.4, 1.20.15, RC 1.21.2.

I was about to email my ISP and accuse them of somehow being responsible for it, but finding this post it seems i'm not alone.

...But if there is a server problem...why doesn't it effect the people that i'm in the sim with aswell?

Unfortunately you can't.
I've always had the same problem with a MBP C2D 2.4ghz, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8600M GT. Adsl download speed: 8 Mbps
Obviously, when I run SL client 1.20.15 on Windows Vista through Bootcamp, everything is ok.
Shame on Linden Lab

Your machine does work fine.
SL doesn't.
Easy.

Are you sure all of them are using the Mac client? ;)
