Strange freezes

Hey there,

Is anyone else experiencing unusual freezes in the current viewer? It seems to happen most when viewing particularly complex avatars, my current thought is that it may be sculpty related, but only when worn by an avatar?

They occur fairly randomly, and don't occur at all if I move the camera away.

Weirdest thing is though that when the freeze occurs it locks up all windows in OS X. That is, not just SL freezes, I can't click on any other program, however other processes still seem to be running as iTunes continues to play (but won't change to the next track). It's like SL is triggering some kind of I/O nightmare that blocks everything, only time I've experienced something similar was when I coded something that did not manage its connections properly (typo, bah!) and caused OS X's interface to lock-up till eventually I got a chance to kill the program (it eventually unfroze for a bit).

I've never seen anything like it and have tried the usual clearing cache etc. I'm going to move my cache to an external drive to see it makes any difference, but I want to know if others are having the same trouble?

My graphics settings are at Ultra with short draw-distance. I am running an 8-core 3.2ghz MacPro with 10gb of RAM, NVidia 8800gt (512mb) and 4 internal hard-drives striped together.

Switching my cache to an external drive didn't solve this issue. I've tried turning off various things like hardware-skinning, run multiple thread and fast alpha and it appears to be none of these features.

Is anyone else encountering the same problem? How about people who aren't, what systems are you running?

This issue isn't new at all. I know it since I entered SL 1 1/2 years ago. There's a large discussion about it in JIRA http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7779 and it seems that LL is finally aware of it. Let's hope that this bug is fixed within the current millennium  .
