You need to get your friend to allow you access to his Shoutcast account.
Basically you set up Nicecast to use his server ( not it's internal server ).
You do that from the Server window in Nicecast, click on the + button, add the server, select Shoutcast as the type, enter the password and name etc.

Then you run Nicecast, it transmits to his server which relays it to all the people in his club.

The info you need from him is

- the shoutcast IP number
- port number
- password

Just want to add a note to this thread, in case anyone is searching for Nicecast.

The internal server of the latest version (1.8.3) uses Icecast 2, I believe. This does not appear to work with Second Life. It connects, but you don't hear anything, possibly due to the change in the URL (playlist.pls in older versions, listen.m3u in newer). The older version (1.6.1) is available from the website and the internal server does work with SL.

Of course, if you're using the internal server, you'd better have a small number of listeners and/or a high upload bandwidth.

If anyone *has* gotten the internal server of the latest version to work with SL, I'd love to hear how!

Works for me !

1.8.3.

But I did have to set the public to private port mapping on my router.

Also it takes SL an extremely long time to connect ... maybe you're not waiting long enough.

Check the url with itunes if it works then SL should.

Also remove the /listen.m3u from the url

eg only use http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:XXXX

and NOT http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:XXXX/listen.m3u

Detailed follow up about Icecast streams
04-03-2006 15:59
Hey. I hope this thread is not dead yet. I have just switched my server from ShoutCast to Icecast. I really love the server, and am a pretty experienced admin. I have been playing with the various options for setting up a mount point with and without an extension, and using either ShoutCast compatible streams versus Icecast native streams. I have gotten several combinations of settings that work fine with iTunes and/or Quicktime player, but NOTHING seems to work when I plug it into my land settings in SL.

So, can anyone tell me, specifically for Icecast server Version 2.2, how I should set up the mount point, with or without an extension, what extenstion to use (I tried .nsv, .mp3 and .m3u) and ShoutCast compatible settings.

Any help is much appreciated. I have a show coming up in a couple weeks and I really don't want to go back to ShoutCast if I can help it.
