You shouldn't need Rosetta, the SL client is a Universal Binary meaning it runs natively on PowerPC and Intel based Macs.
Can you give more specifics about your machine such as RAM, graphics card etc.? Have you downloaded all the updates available in System Preferences >> Software Update?
I run v1.19.1(4) on my Mac Pro and it runs pretty well, still sometimes a bit slow, but much smoother than before, and no crashing except in very rare circumstances (My SL client once crashed because my friend in the sim had their client crash, which I wasn't impressed by).

Give us your system specs, including video card info and what version of the Mac OS you're running.
Make sure you have the latest video drivers for the card that you have.
For making movies in SL with a Mac, you will HAVE to use an external screen capture application. The built-in "capture movie" feature in the SL client doesn't work on Mac, hasn't for quite a while, and LL has no intention of fixing it. There are a few helpful threads in the forums for what sort of external screen capuure apps people successfully use with Macs.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

That's identical to my machine except that I've the 3.2ghz processors and 2gb more RAM (neither of which should matter).
What OS X version are you running, have you downloaded the latest graphics updates and/or the firmware update for Mac Pros?

if you don't have anything else show up in Software Update, you have the latest video drivers.
Of course it runs bad with Rosetta, your running it under processor emulation, you only use Rosetta for old apps that don't run on Intel Macs natively.
As to why yours is not working right... i dont have enough data to tell you. You might try at your graphics settings, only turn things on or up slowly over time and see when it starts having problems.
Also, if you tried to migrate it from an older Mac, it wont work either. Need to delete the SL app, and its Application Support folder (default in ~/Library/Application Support/SecondLife), and download it fresh.
