While Second Life is very much a Resident-owned world, the various denizens of Linden Lab still own fair bit of land. Much of this Linden-owned territory is the ground beneath public spaces like the Welcome Area or the Sandbox, but some if it made up of various strips, corners, edges, and medians that Linden holds onto in order to preserve natural or Linden-built features.

It’s only natural for the neighbors to eye Linden land – be it for home expansion or additional prim allocation—and occasional inquiries are made about the availability of Linden-owned real estate.

As a policy, land owned by any Linden, currently and in the future, is not available for sale or trade to any Resident. Should a piece of land end it’s tenure as a Linden parcel, it will be auctioned or released to public at a time that does not benefit any particular Resident.

Additionally, requests to have tress planted or specific structures built on Linden land cannot be accommodated, and special dispensation to build on or over Linden land will not be granted, save for circumstances in which land has been set aside for that purpose.
