The game needs a conflict. Without the conflict, there is no motion. The only activity in the game is making stuff, selling stuff and showing off. I love to build things, it's fun.

But how long can it be fun? Eventualy it will become boring for any person. Well , yes , there is also sucha thing as communication. But how fun can a communication be when everybody is agreed with each other ? Why say anything if everyone knew the answer would be always a positive one ?

I see Second Life as a game also about relation between people not as a game where we only create objects.
The state of war, the conflict are normal states of humanity, if it can be called "normal". It's been so for eons. That's what makes us move our asses. Is it bad? Is it good? I am not here to talk about that. It's just the order of things in human society. Relation between people imply the presence of conflict . That's how we comprehend and interact with our world, thru a conflict.

I have no idea as of yet what kinda conflict SL needs. But I can say that it should be pan SL conflict, not locolized to one or a few SIMs. Three-sided conflict, meaning involving 3 parties. Some shooting could be fun too :-D

Now about politics and policies. All SL policies are conditioned by Linden Laboratory (LL from here on). Any player's behavior that leads to a conflict with another player can and will be punished by LL . The only people in position to act RL-like is LL ;-D

So we need LL's help to set rules of engagement so to say :) But ideas about the nature of conflict, its mechanics, we can come up with. It can be corporate war, or gangs conflict, or trade war, or political war... With some kinda $Lindens rewards or territory(land) capturing.

The important thing is to make it NOT mandatory for SL players but with some kinda rewards for participants.
If you have any thoughts on SL conflict/war policie and mechanics please share your ideas.

Love ya all, kisses to Thili, finger to you know who you are,
Yoshiko .

P.S. A political conflict would be intresting. Something like running for the President of SL :D Three parties . The winner gets some amount of $L from LL and maybe those who helped him to win and voted for him...i don't know :) something like that.
Political assassination could be fun also :D. Good way to get rid of a rival. Three successful assassinations would lead to a dismissal of candidate. The candidate gonna need bodyguards. And also image makers, costume people, speech writers and so on...
A lot of people could get activly involved

P.P.S. The winning party could govern a special island of SIMs (4 sims can be nice) for some period of time provided by LL. The winning party will govern those SIMs till the next elction, let's say in 2 months...

Absolutely!

Right on target - I agree that it should be an alternative, and not just localized to a single sim or continent.

Maybe a game like CounterStrike or Half-life within SL?

I would love to go to an area where it is ok to push/kill other avatars and not be punished for it or not have to worry about being reported. I would love some sort of gang warfare and maybe some sort of points/$L for killing people. I want to place C4 in places and blow avatars up without getting in trouble

Good idea!

Currently I have to log out of SL, and log into Guild Wars to get some intense fast action. In Guild Wars small unit tactics and overall Guild versus Guild competition are set in a HUGE world with really good terrain and mythic style architecture. The backstory is unobtrusive, which is way better than most RPGs. We could do that some day in SL. : D

It'll take Havok2 and more to upgrade the SL platform to allow that kind of action, but there's been a lot of work done on combat systems to get ready for that day. Chinatown was an interesting full-sim FPS experiment. You can buy the Seburo weapons used for it. Francis Chung keeps improving the Seburos, and we get the upgrades for free.

The part we can do well right now is the persistent world building and demolition part. We can also develop strategic level game mechanics based on territoriality. But we need more. To succeed with a pan-SL game we have to make the game's goals and rewards better than the goals and rewards available to the potential player who could simply decide to stay on his land building stuff and occasionally going somewhere to buy stuff or attend an event. In my opinion most sims are startlingly lifeless. People build stuff, and that makes a bit of activity...then nothing. The average potential player might feel that the activity of the game is way better than living in a sim where nothing much happens.

Rex Hornet would be a good resource...

My inworld cousin Rex Hornet might be able to provide more specific ideas. Please IM him inworld. He's started a group called the Alliance that would like to see more conflict.

Other forms of conflict could be some or all of the following:

cyclical economic conditions
weather
seasons
tides
population biology/wild things
cosmic events
disease and pestilence
random business failures
lifecycles (death)
war (or suspend safety randomly)
political organizations
evil (crime, random violence, murder)

These could be triggered on random number generators for anytime, anyplace, to any degree by the Lindens - or simply made possible by them if requested or purchased.

Other ideas?
