I do not think we need a government of any kind. Second Life is supposed to be an escape from eveyday life, where we can do almost anything we want. The last thing I want are laws or some leader telling the SL community what to do. Linden Labs has done a fine job of enoforcing the SL rules, and I think they should continue to do so.

I don't think anyone is advocating government for all of SL. I think what people are interested in are selecting areas with some additional regulations, like homeowner's associations.
Rest assured, no form of government will blanket the entire SL world.
