You don't need to be so X-Files to point out the bad side of RL governments. For instance, the U.S. spends half of its annual budget to pay for its gargantuan military. I'd much rather see that military badfare go to social welfare myself. It would give U.S. citizens universal healthcare and a solid Social Security system instantly.

not that i'm any fan of our driving up a huge budget deficit to support government entitlements and military spending, but a certain amount of military spending is necessary if you face up to the realities of the human race (i.e. we're still barbarians).

This isn't real life. It's SL. It's an international community of avatars who don't get sick or go hungry. How in the hell do RL comparisons apply? Why do we keep coming back to this government nonsense? The Anti-Gov people say that it should be voluntary, and the Pro-Gov people and the Lindens BOTH agree. So what's the damned problem?

There are people doing their own governments in SL, and they seem to be happy about it. Not one of them has ever bothered me on my little 512 plot. If they want to organize and build along a theme, who are they hurting? Certainly not me.

I agree that a small amount is needed. However, we currently outspend the number two military spender by a factor of five, an amount that exceeds the military budgets of Russia, China, Japan and all the NATO countries combined!

I believe military spending should go on the chopping block before Social Security does.
