People want to try sociology experiments, they aren't gonna make you fill out a 1040

The theory behind this forums existence is that some people want to try some variations on the way things are run on their own land, and those experiments involve models of different social system's decision and control making methods. These people are really into stuff like the difference between different voting schemes like majority rule versus proportional representation . Participation would be total voluntary. No one will be able to tell you how to build on the land you own or put an income tax on you or draft you into an army and send you over to Active Worlds to kill the VRML scum.

People with an "I don't wanna be pushed around" attitude should chill. There is no SL Government coming. There may be areas where people on their land run things differently to some degree than the way things have been throughout SL's days, but what they do on their own land with their own stuff is their own business and nothing to get bent out of shape about.

If you are truly concerned about losing the services you are paying for as a result of some "SL Government" you fear may come into existence the place to direct your questions is to the Lindens, not to this forum. You can send email to the lindens as well as post questions about your concerns in the Linden Hotline.

power is measured in what people can get done, not what they "explicitly allowed to do".

the problem is that i'm fairly certain no small number of the pro-government faction want to be able to impose sl wide policies on the residents of sl.

Unless you're a mind reader this is just speculation and fear mongering.

Personally, I don't have any desire to use a player-based government to impose SL-wide policies on anyone. Further, of the people I've worked with (most of the serious progovernment folks), none of them have ever suggested such a government.


That said, I do have a personal political agenda, including seeing land auctions and land-use fees reformed. However, I direct those to the Lindens at the "federal" level, given that they are the ones who control that aspect of SL.

there is evidence read through the general forum, and look at all the demands people make:
- no teens
- no sex
- ban people who make death threats
- preserve the natural state of sims
- don't form a government forum
- form a government forum
the list is quite long.

people want what they want. and no few of them want their views enforced by ll, whether or not for good or bad reasons is immaterial. these are things a few people want to impose on the rest of sl.

if you are going to have a discussion about government in sl, be honest about and look at all the evidence.
