I opened up a new opinion poll at my place (Ebisu 195, 235, 33). The poll question is: "Zoning restrictions should be adopted in SL to reduce the spread of billboards" with simple yes/no answer categories. Residents can also leave a more detailed response on the bulletin board.
I invite everyone to drop by and leave their opinions on the issue.

I say they are fine. People may not like them, but if somebody buys land and wants those on them to advertise for other places for money or bring people to thier own, I think it's fine. Most aren't ugly or anything and they do buy good ammounts of land for billboards. It's nothing like the people who buy 16m land and put things on it just to be annoying. Edit: Oh, and New Jersey is nicer than people think.

From: Ante Flan Edit: Oh, and New Jersey is nicer than people think. That all depends on where you are in New Jersey, doesn't it? I mean Newark looks like it was hit by a bomb. Of course I'm originally from around Detroit so take that with a grain of salt.

Spengler Roo. Zoning is a wonderful Idea...........But many are going to view this as the lackof freedom of speach........You know people are going to cry this don`t you?! Then there are those that just want those signs out PERIOD. Its a no win situation.

billboards....

I posted this suggestion to a similar thread last week: Give landowners an alternative texture, like transparent, to apply to offensive signage viewable from their property that would only be viewable from their property. This is a win -win for all. It shouldn't be any tougher to code than personalized media streaming on a parcel, and a single universal transparent texture would minimize overhead.
There is potential for abuse in billboards that needs to be balanced by the rights of the property holders. I've got a floating Freedom-O-Matic near my plot. It's empty for the moment, but there are no restrictions as to what it could display. I'll paraphrase the notecard it carries to save space: "Don't like what you see on this sign? Too bad! Of course. for a small recurring fee, we could make that problem go away for you...." This smacks of extortion, doesn't it?

Until this is clarified, I vote a firm 'no'

I don’t see the point for zoning.. I mean.. really.. look at this screenshot. Its a residential area just of the coast. anyone would be happy to buy a home here. Its just a few signs... http://oblivionarena.com/Snapshot_002.jpg
