At first I didn't like the idea behind this forum. Since then I have changed my mind. Many others may have changed their minds too. Old polls results may not mean much at all. Accordingly I am posting a new poll.
This poll will be one where you can see who votes which way.
The question is "Should the SL In-world Political Science" forum be closed?

Perhaps it should be moved to the Group Life Forums, since it does deal specifically with "Groups" of people, but gosh darn, keep it, lol, its the MOST entertaining of all the forums!

Yes, Mary, I learned something from Ulrika. Even at my advanced age I am still capable of learning from time to time. It wasn't just from Ulrika either.
I only had 1 year of "political science" in college, U.S. Government, and that was 33 or so years ago. So there's ample room in the "Political Science" section of my brain for stuff to fit in. They problem now is that stuff falls out as fast as it goes in.
I'm finding the idea of the set of decision making rules as an active structure that persists beyond it's creators participation interesting, it's reminding me of the structures that form in cellular automata like Conway's Life algorithm.

i suspect that anyone who posts here often enough would vote to keep the place open.
and i suspect most of the people who don't want this forum around have stopped reading it by now. so they wouldn't know to vote?

Honestly, who in the world would want it closed? It doesn't cost us anything, and if you don't like what's going on in the forum, just don't read it!

Ulrika is lovely, no doubts she is. Politic is less smarter, but no doubts about the fact that it is fascinating. As long as this forum is not intended as a forcing of a wide SL player government (I had to point this out, cause I hate to be crucified not being a catholic in the strict meaning of the word), there is no doubt that it is more than welcome.

Could we talk about various voting and representation systems?
04-15-2005 10:23
If you think of political science as the study of methods of dispute resolution there is a clear need for this sort of forum because their are so many disptutes going on.
For those who want some form of voting and representative based structure, there are all sorts of different methods of doing voting and apportioning representatives. Can someone who knows about such things start a separate thread on the pros and cons of various methods? It's not something I know much about.
