A dear friend of mine is being stalked in SL and RL and the Lindens won't do anything about it. I really don't want to spend six months or a year trying to hack SL servers to get the stalkers IP address, but if he kills her in RL, no doubt the Lindens will charge her tier fees until her estate runs out in RL. This is soooooooooooooo crazy. Can anyone help? Please??????????

I apologize if this is an inappropriate forum, didn't know where else to go.

Call the cops, problem solved. Seriously, the lindens aren't the police in real life. They won't do jack shit. So there's no point. Only the real life cops can do something about it.

Also, this is the wrong fourm.

A better answer?

And truly Gin, call the cops with what? Cut and pasted death threats and a screen name? How far do you honestly believe that would go? Governments are already looking at MySpace, Youtube, etc etc. They WILL regulate if we don't police ourselves.

Yes, call the cops. You can also speak with the FBI. Cyberstalking is a real crime and they will take it seriously (Assuming you actually believe there to be a real threat there).

I've had to call the cops before and the FBI took care of our cyberstalking problem.

Yes. The FBI or the cops can obtain the stalker's info from LL with a search warrant.

If this stalker is a RL threat, the RL authorities should be brought in ASAP.

I would also file an AR (even if you have already), and say in it that the abuse has escalated to RL threatening behavior. Therefore, in addition to LL handling the AR inworld, you would like to know what person/department at LL your local police should contact to begin the process of obtaining the person's identity, pursuant to delivering a restraining order. That should at least get the inworld harrassment some attention.
