looking for a "not the average" greeter

I'm looking for a script I can drop into "Fred". Fred is an alien pet that floats around our space port, and I would like him to be able to respond to people that say "Hi, Fred" with "Hi, ___". It would be great if he could understand various languages and greetings and responded in kind. It would be stupendous if he spoke an alien language that was then translated in local chat.

That wiki was not quite what I was looking for.... it seems to be a conversationalist greeter bot thingie... *L* much more complicated than I am looking for.
