A hologram or floating image of someone

I am making a new post because no one responded to my old one and perhaps people did not understand what I want.

I want an object I can click on (A locket or necklace) that will rez a 3D (or only 2D if that’s all that’s possible) image of myself and some other people. Like I click on it or give a voice command and I get a list of who I want to see and when I say or click on it the image appears.

Can that be done? Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I'm not a scripter, so I don't know how that part would be done, but I would think the hologram would be attached to the necklace, and only become visible when the object was clicked, or when a voice command was given.

I'd think the easiest way to make the actual hologram would be to take a photo of the people with either a solid color or tv-static type background (depending on what effect you want) and put that on a cylinder (or whatever shape you want the hologram to have) then make it partly transparent.

The hologram object could be either attached directly to the item, as if it was a beam of light coming out of it, or floating slightly above it, again depending on the effect you want.

The necklace could probably easily be scripted so that the hologram part would only become visible when clicked... you might want to try posting a question in the scripting tips forum to find out how to do that part. Good luck!

I've had limited success making holographs with particles - the downside is they're 2D and always face your avatar when looking at them, but you can make them flicker in and out, scale size, ect...

I've not tested the reliability of producing one particle temporarily (i.e. have the system life lower than the particle life) but if it's good I'd definitely do it with particles. Using a model would be very complicated (unless the avatar(s) in question were furries or some other prim-based avatar) and if it's a holographic display I don't see the problem having it always face the camera - that's how I'd like to see 2D holographic displays work in RL.
