I have a 'phaser' (star trek type) and a sunbeam laser pistol...both work only in mouselock and as a result cannot seem to watch myself use them... Anyone have a ray or beam weapon I can see myself firing and which I can use without being in mouse mode ? I'd prefer a weapon which is not based on a tv sci fi series if possible and which also comes with a holster. The weapon is mainly for display so it doesnt particularly have to be able to inflict damage so long as it looks effective Thanks Mael.

I don't know if this will help you, but there was a post yesterday about changing settings so that you still see your AV when in mouselook. If I can find that thread back I'll let you know.

Two things you can do.
Firstly - enable the "see av in mouselook" option, it's in the preferences. This will mean you go into mouselook but see the arms of your av moving the gun and aiming and so on. I usually have this on myself. But you will need to be in mouselook for this.
Secondly - change the control script so you don't have to be in mouselook. This requires editing the script so that it triggers on CONTROL_LBUTTON rather than CONTROL_ML_LBUTTON (for example). Most melee weapons use this sort of control (including ones which I sell, ahem) because it is compatible with most of the roleplaying combat systems out there.
