I don't understand these types of posts...why wouldn't they just develop their own product lines, if they're able?

You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.
Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I love to build and teach but I don't really like the work of selling so I can understand this. And it helps to focus me if someone asks to have things built so that I can go from project to project. That being said, after giving the whole have a job in SL thing a shot, having SL be in anyway a job is not for me..SL is where I don't have to be focused!

From: Ann Launay I don't understand these types of posts...why wouldn't they just develop their own product lines, if they're able? Well, i think that's probably the crux of the issue, they may have great ideas, but not the skills to execute them. And even then, while someone may be an awesome builder/scripter, they may not always have time to do everything, and still handle the administrative side of a business. I have to dance this line all the time, and I make it no secret that I have partners that do scripting/building for me, on occasion, even though I have the chops to do it all myself. I just don't have the time in every case (which makes me sad, I love creating).

Does it really matter? The money comes back into the economy and both sides are happy. If he/she is successful, perhaps more contractual work becomes available feeding more money back into the economy. If I had a sporting goods store and wanted to sell baseball bats, I am not going to go buy a wood lathe and start hacking up my back yard.....I am going to go to a distributor or manufacturer and cut a deal. I commissioned my script work for my camping systems while I honed my building techniques. And in that time, I have at least started to develop some modding skills, to the scripts I paid for.

I personally like it, I'm a kinda new builder, which means people dont even really consider me as much, especially since i only have simpler stuff to show. This is giving me some work, as well as getting my name out there, if only a tiny bit better. I've got a club and a small office above it, but thats all the land i can afford, so I can't have my own store for my stuff, so its getting me paid, plus getting my work out there, which I'm proud of. its like the real world, larger places give more people jobs.
