I have a boat I created, which is set so anyone may use it, but I have seen boats that rezz a new one when somebody gets in and drives away, then de-rezzes when they get out the boat.

I have tried to find out what script is used to make this happen, and failed. Can anybody help me out please? It would save me a lot of work rescuing my boat every time somebody wanders off with it and doesn't put it back where it started.

Thanks in advance

Liz

Hi Liz. You are looking for an "object giver" script. Let me describe how it would work, and see if this is what you want:

-- The boat has an object on it with hovertext that says: "To go for a boat ride, please touch for your own boat!"

-- On touch, the object rezzes a copy of the boat and tells the person touching it to sit on it.

-- The copy is set "Temporary". Temporary objects last for approximately one minute unless someone is sitting on them, in which case they last until the avie unsits. Temporary objects delete themselves from the sim, which means they do not end up in your or anyone else's inventory.

You may want to be sure that the original boat on your dock cannot be used by anyone as well!

Does this sound like what you want? If so, I or any scripter could do this for you very easily -- there are free scripts that are very close to this. I'd just post a stab at this here, but I don't have time to go inworld and be sure it actually worked. It also may need a little tinkering to be sure the copy rezzes in a place where it can be just sailed away. If no one volunteers, contact me via IM inworld.
