I've been having a very difficult time trying to find an actual kitsune based avatar or tails. Just about all the different models that I find are 'neko' tails, which while interesting, are hardly what I'm looking for. Either that, or I find that when someone means 'kitsune', they just mean fox. What I'm looking for is avatars or tails of the mythical demon/spirit fox, multi-tailed type kitsunes. They seem to be in extremely short supply outside of custom jobs.
I'm not necessarily looking for anything custom, unless it's decent without breaking the bank, but I'm looking for information on where someone might be able to get a kitsune avatar or tails that actually looks fox-like, maybe even looks a bit unique from regular foxes.

There are a number of furry avatars with swishy fox tails you could swipe, including some free ones. I believe if you check "Wingless Emoto"s picks you'll be able to find a collection of free avatars with a number of different colors of foxes.

I know how to get a fox avatar. In fact I'm using aventity's silver fox right now. But I'm looking to find actual fox multi-tails to add to it, not the neko tails or singular fox tails.

Just link multiple tails together.
Take one tail, shift-drag a copy, turn on "edit linked parts", pick only the ball at the base of the tail. control shift L to unlink it, click the ball again, delete it. Now you have two tails, one with the scripted base prim and one without. Shift-drag as many copies of the unscripted one as you want, adjust the angles, bring them together, and select them all... selecting the tail with the ball still attached last. Hit shift-L to link them all together. Done.
BTW: "kitsune" just means "fox", like "neko" means "cat". I thought you were talking about a japanese animal-ear-style fox avatar, not a thousand year old fox avatar. Sorry.
