We are having a lot of troubles for grievers who come back with alts (we suspect) after we banned them. Now we want to see who are all these alts are. I heard there is a device where you can trace the IP address of the avatar. Does anyone know where to get this?

As far as I know this isn't possible with lsl. Even if it was, I would not recommend it. A lot of ISP's generally provide the first IP off the top of their available list, or even just a random one. So you could potentially be blocking legitimate visitors that are unlucky enough to be assigned an IP address you have previously blocked. To give you an example: My IP address was ***.143.240.52 I disconnected from the internet for a few seconds and then reconnected My new IP address is ***.129.220.92 As you can see, IP addresses can change drastically every time you connect. The best thing would be to check how long they have been in second life. Simply block anyone younger than a week old. And yes, I have changed my IP address again

As far as I know, there is no "foolproof" way to score someone's IP address. Most methods involve baiting in some form. Either offering someone a URL, offering them L$ to take a short "survey" on a website, asking someone to "take a look at your web-tab on your profile", or using the parcel media options on a piece of land you own, to get the target user to load that media URL.
The problem with every one of these, is that it can be easily avoided. Potential griefers probably have all streaming-media disabled, they probably don't click "Load Website" offers made to them, and they don't ususally stop what they're doing to score a few free lindens.
And of course, in order for any security system to work, you'd have to be able to check their IP address again, and compare it to the one you've stored in a database. And frankly you just can't get that kind of information "on demand".
As stated before, your best best is to either auto-eject people under a certain age, or just "live with it". Autoreturn is your friend, you can freeze and ban people from your lands.. mute them, and ALWAYS file Abuse Reports.. for each and every alt they use. (friendly tip.. AR them BEFORE muting them).
