Unusual (?) Male Skin

After spending a week or so searching in-world and on the web, I've still come up empty-handed when it comes to a good skin for a male avatar for my fiancé's avatar. So, I am wondering if anyone here has any recommendations that might fit the following criteria:

*Ideally not photosourced, or at least not heavily so. I am looking for a smoother, more painted look rather than a very realistic.

*A lean and not overly muscular body and a face that tends more towards elegant/refined and a little androgynous rather than very masculine.

*Something suitable for an avatar with fairly sharp features. In particular, a sharper and more prominent nose, because I've found that most skins we've tried cannot handle a nose that deviates much from the default.

Hmm, there's a couple places that come to mind in this. Bare Rose might have skins like that, they are less realistic, somewhat androgenous. Also, ~broken~ at Temenos has some very androgenous/femme male skins.

There's another place, but I'd have to ask Mia what it was called, but it sells great skins like that, I have an all black one for an avie we did. I'll get the name and post it on here for you.

Just some thoughts, before you go and have someone custom, if you haven't checked them already =)

And even I have a hand drawn skin. (And a hybrid one called 'advance' with no 6 pack)

I dont know who else does. Im more familiar with the photosourced type as thats what I wear.

good luck in your search.

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but Nora BodySkins & Fashions has a nice male freebie skin I think might suit you. It's got some good body definition without that overly "ripped" look, and the facial definition is decent, with (I think) the more painted and less photographed look you're after.

If you don't mind facial hair, I found the "Male Skin Caramel Goatee" and "Male Skin Caramel Vandyke" skins at Enkythings also work pretty well. I've seen the goatee one in various places around SL, but that's the only place I've run across the vandyke.

Tete a Pied has a newbie pack of free skins you might want to take a look at if you are under 30 days. They do come with underwear, though, so you're out of luck if that cramps your style.

Finally, I second (third?) the folks who suggest using the sliders rather than buying a shape. Keep in mind that a shape will change not just your body, but your face. If you are set on buying one, though, I liked what I saw at Regency shapes. (And she has a free pack with skins and budget skin recommendations if you happen to be in the store.)

Good luck!
Nic

(Who, in the days when she was new and bored, spent a bit of time playing around with male shapes and skins. Hey, you never know where a bit of knowledge will come in handy.)

EDIT: Wait, you're not the one who asked about shapes. Leaving the info in, though, in case it might help.

I got a very nice skin at RaC, but I have a problem.

I was a male avatar and I wanted to change over to be a female.

So, I changed from Male to Female on the Appearance settings and wore the skin that I bought. But I am confused.

I have a womans body and nice colour, but my face looks weird and there is no hair.

Isn't the face that I saw on the poster in RaC part of the skin?

How do I load the face from the poster onto my character?

Can someone help me please?

Thanks.

The shape of your face can make a *huge* difference in how your skin looks. That means two people who wear the same skin, can look dramatically different. To get your face to look right, go into appearance and fiddle around with the sliders in the shape;head section. To change the shape and position of your eyebrows you need to use the 'hair' section.

Hair is not part of your skin. You can either create avatar hair in appearance, or buy prim hair, which is what most women wear.

Thanks for the replies.

Well, I have my hair now and it looks great.

I just can't get the face right though. I want it to be perfect, but
I don't know what to slide/adjust.

Are there any good resources for help with faces?

Thanks,

Morgann.
