Can someone please point me in the direction of some good "romantic" animations that don't require pose balls? I also need help on how to use them... I bought a hug animation from a store the other day, but can't figure out how to use it...

the best "toy" for that kind of stuff that i have personal experience with is the abranimations couples animator. warning, if you wear it on a female avi all the "gender-specific" animations play in the wrong direction. its easy to fix that in the notecards inside though.

find it at abranimations (search - places, type "abranimations"

Meike Heston's Hug & Kiss Animator is teh awesome...among other things, it adjusts for height, allows you to hold the pose for as long as you like, and is Havok 4 compatible. The basic 6 animation version is 400L and the Deluxe 12 animation version is 800L.

Meike's HUD is super simple - just a couple of button clicks - and minimizes down to about the size of this smiley when you aren't using it:
