I understand the rules about not being able to force things on another avatar without their consent, and i fully agree. That said, i have a question about collars and scripts. Many times these scripted collars are locked, so that they send an IM to the "owner" if the person wearing it removes it. Often times, another object will replace the collar unintentionally. Is it possible to have a script that would bring up a dialogue box for the wearer, informing them that they are about to remove a locked collar and ask if they wish to continue? It would not stop them from purposely removing it, but it would let them know if it is about to happen accidentally.

no, you can delay the Instant Message but you cant delay the detach / attach sequence.

When you go to put something on, before you do, look at "Attach to" and you will see a list of the attachment points and what is on them. This may help... I would think that if you IMed your owner immediately upon catching the mistake, they should be understanding. Most are not newbies. The whole point of the collar in SL is a trust, and sending an IM right away to explain the problem honors that trust. I often run out of attachment points when I'm wearing prim hair and veils at the same time, so I have to attach a veil meant for my nose to my ear, go into Edit and move it around... getting a posing stand helps with this, although you won't move while you're in Edit. You could attach the collar to a different attachment point, as long as it moves on the avatar in the same position as the neck it will work. Or put the new item on a different attachment point and move it around instead. Use position and rotate to reposition the items. Don't forget that most collars are a cylinder prim and easy to resize as well. The scripts themselves will work exactly the same way no matter where the collar is attached. You could even bury a collar you have in the avatar, just to get the use of the animations, and make your own new collar for the looks of it (if you don't need a particle chain); this is a super cheap way of recycling an old collar that might not suit but has a good collection of animations in it.

heyas;
when you first go to attach an object where another object is already attached, a dialogue/warning box pops up and says 'blah blah is already attached there, do you want to change it?' there's also a little checkbox on that dialogue that says 'do not show this message again.' ie: always replace attachments without confirmation.
you might go into your preferences (or show/tell the collar user how to) and look under the tab for confirmation boxes. if you can figure out how anything on that tab actually works (as far as i can tell, you can't turn confirmations off from here, or move them between the on and off lists), you could re-activate the attachment replacement warning.

From: paige Nurmi i have never messed with those preferences, and i have never received a warning when on attachment replaces another, it just happens. I do get this message if I attempt to wear an object by using the "attach to" method, but not by simply choosing to "wear" from my inventory and I have never changed my settings either.
