News Article

From: someone

Police say there are 39 casualties, with two people seriously injured.

The first blast happened at 0603 GMT at the Buncefield fuel depot, close to junction 8 of the M1 motorway and was heard as far away as the Netherlands.

The fire, which police believe was caused by an accident, could last days with more explosions expected.

The area around the site has been evacuated, while police have advised residents living nearby to keep their windows and doors closed because of fumes.

Thick clouds of smoke are spreading to the south-east and south-west, but are not thought to be toxic.

Well I'm 100 miles away and it shook the house pretty badly.. I hope everyones alright..

"And we're just... yes, we're just getting reports in now that this could be the slowest news day in peacetime Europe, which might explain the repeated loop footage we've been showing here on News 24 all day. And the question on everyone's lips here in Hemel Hempstead tonight, Huw, is - when can all of the increasingly desperate hacks go home and get some tea? Back to you in the studio."

You could almost hear the producers at News24 drooling as the presenter said "and authorities say that the fire might keep going for several days"....

It was an almost entirely automated place and there weren't any tankers there picking up, hence the fact that nobody was killed and injuries were relatively light; obviously a very good thing. I wish I could get my particle systems looking as impressive as that though.
