There's a software out there asking SL residents for their account name and passwords. After reading this thread: http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/11/07/important-free-money-hack-dont-fall-for-it/ I was under the impression that LL isn't all that fond of phishing.

The software in question is called CopyBot. Download links are openly sold inworld, for the outrageous price of L$2900. The name of the salesperson is GeForce Go, a name that clearly violates the TOS since GeForce is a registered trademark of the NVidia corporation.

Oh, I almost forgot: the software is supposed to create full permission copies of pretty much everything by hacking into the data stream between client and server. Is that compliant with the TOS? I'm not sure anymore. Well, the first two points should be enough to stop this madness. GeForce is also a member of the seller's guild, so Robin might know him from their recent meeting.

PS: I'm so fed up with this, do you know that? Why do we have to resort to this? Why are content creators not supported by doing what every MMOG publisher would do: announcing that you won't tolerate a third-party hack like this? The thread of penalties and open disaffirmation of hacking tools would already be enough to keep a lot of people from using them. Please do at least the little you can do.

Hi Ishtara,

Please go to http://blog.secondlife.com for our response to the the CopyBot issue and join the discussion there if you haven't already.

Thank you for reporting any suspected Phishing attempts and TOS violations. It should go without saying that you should never give anyone your password...but it doesn't so it will be said again. NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR PASSWORD.
