Dear Lindens,

I would like to know if there is an official policy on the procedure for dealing with items created via glitches, bugs, or client-side hacks.

It would appear from some other forum posts that in some cases, the glitch or bug has been fixed, but residents who created the objects have been allowed to continue holding them and creating copies of them. (Examples to which this may apply are negative mass prims, zero mass prims, and outsize prims.)

If this is indeed policy I would like to urge you to reconsider, since this policy has the effect of effectively making the submission of bug reports a tactical business move to eliminate competition (since after the bug has been fixed, potential competitors cannot duplicate the benefits the bug provided)

I would be very grateful if you could let me know what the current policy in these cases is. Thanks!

Here's how it goes, Yumi: our developers have been following this and related issues for some time. As these "mutant prims" are considered to not be part of the system as we intend it to be, future changes to SL may render them broken so we would, at the least, recommend not depending on any "glitches" that aren't purposeful functionality and are subject to change.

It's also worth noting that some of these prims with certain parameters cause serious problems like crashing simulators, hence an additional reason why we advise not using them.

In addition, there's at least one bug which allows for the creation of "mutant prims" that's top priority to us and will be fixed ASAP.
