I own Catalina Island, and have surveyed many clubs. I don't understand the big push on chair camping, high prize money, other invested dollars to attract people, if there is no reward from Linden.

Can someone explain this to me please? Thank you.

Yes I can.

Second Life enabled weblinks to First Life porn sites is one way of doing it........and when you have grasped that concept I am sure you will see that other ( my words more ethical) possibilities are interesting as well

It's the clubs way of attracting business. The more business they attract the more they sell in their vends or what ever it is they are currently selling. Casino objects, escort svcs., mall space...

I don't understand it either but if they want to spend their money that is their choice. I went to one of those camping chairs places and took 10 L$ of their money one day and sent the owner a note personaly thanking them for the free money :D lol. I was completly board by the time I made 3L$ so they paid me while I went and did the rl dishes LOL.

Many clubs - even large, well-known clubs, run at a financial loss. The owners just enjoy being virtual club owners, and are prepared to pay through the nose to have *their* club be perceived as one of the most popular in SL.

It's a high-maintenance fantasy, and they're prepared to pay to achieve it.

Of course, *some* of the big names turn a profit... but not as many as you'd expect ;)

First and foremost, if you're in this to make money... forget it. Nobody is forcing you to play SL, so what you pay is entirely your choice.

Secondly, if people (and this isn't directed at you) provided quality, you'd get visitors anyway - the lame places who just buy visitors and their success through camping chairs or whatever are essentially admitting they don't have that quality.

Finally, Linden do support you by providing a place to have fun. If you aren't enjoying paying $195 a month for 65536 sq/m to do whatever you like, you could either tier down, or rebuild it to make something that would attract people.

I manage to enjoy myself each month and get value for money out of what I do in game. Even if you're paying for a whole sim, it's costing you less than $7 a day for unlimited entertainment if you want to log in all day. That works out, on an average day of playing for just a couple of hours, cheaper than going to a movie, buying a magazine, or getting a takeaway, per hour.

When you look at it that way... SL isn't so expensive after all, is it? I'd love to have more land, but I just can't justify spending all that money on one source of entertainment each month, when there are other things I can - and should - be doing.
