What about land that appears to be abandoned?

Right in the center of my own land there is a 512 parcel that was obviously bought as first land since the name still actually says first land by someone who apparently doesnt even play the game anymore. His profile is completely empty. I would love to buy his land and just have a nice perfectly square parcel all joined together but he hasnt come online. I did send an offline IM in the hopes he might get it in his email but no response to that either. Is there anything that is generally done about abandoned land or am I stuck with just keeping the row of trees I've placed around his lot to hide the ugly structure he built there and accepting it?

Group land?

Sometimes groups have alts that buy first land for the computing prims...

They use the prims to run advertising or other scripts that automate a service within SL.

They don't advertise this purpose and you may find it difficult to resolve other than with trees. I have a similar issue next to my plot in Albata. They finally removed the structure but there is little chance of them ever selling since they grabbed the land for $1/sq meter.

Good luck.

Hi Avery,

I am in this same situation, and as far as i have been able to tell, if the land (and the account) is abandoned and Lindens know it to be so, after about 3 months it will go up for sale again.

I have not got a clear answer from anyone as to how the sale works, but with the new land sale rule changes, it seems likely that the plot might be re-allocated as first land again, as opposed to being auctioned off privately.

If that is the case, this means you would not be able to buy it unless you have never bought first land, or you have an alt that has never bought first land.

If a new player buys it as first land, you could offer them a healthy markup on it or an exchange with another piece. I find most people respond well to a fair deal if you make the offer.

Ty Dianne and Greene its good to know they have something in place for the situation, guess I'll just keep the trees around it and wait to see what happens. In the meantime I got a nice woodsy effect going.

Maybe a private forum message

It is possible that you might be able to send the person a private forum message, it is at least worth a try.

You could make a post identifying the person by name and asking anyone who knows them to ask them to contact you.

I would think you have already tried asking everyone who owns land nearby if they know how to contact the person.

If they show groups in their profile you could ask the group members if they knows how to contact the person.

If they have picks in their profile you could visit the picks and see if that yields any contact info.

abandoned land

Yep those are all very good ideas Suezanne ... a couple of them even I might have been smart enough to think of. Unfortunately this person has absolutely nothing in his profile, completely blank. It really looks like he played for one day and left. In the meantime I surrounded his structure with walls, textured them and made it look like a pretty decent little fake cabin with his enourmous hamster cage lookin thing sittin inside tucked out of view. I figure if he did come online again he'd probably be a little angry to find his land surrounded by walls and trees but then at least maybe he'd also call me to yell at me and we can start negotiations. haha. But no, no profile no picks no groups, nada.

Look on the bright side, at least you dont have a 16m block in the middle of your 6000m plot thats elevated to max height (and in my sim its not +/- 4m). Its my own Washington monument. :D I even tried to contact the micro land baron himself and offered to exchange another 16m in the same sim but not smack dab in the middle of my property. Response? None. Another microland baron has 16m priced at 10,000 L$ in the same sim. Havent checked it lately. :)

I've been through this same thing before. You might try looking for their profile in the Find window. Sometimes you get a profile from the land window, but it doesn't show up in Find. That means their profile isn't active, and their land will probably be reclaimed within 60 days (I think) and go to auction or get recycled as First Land again.

16m mountain or a small slightly ugly square? Guess I can live with it.

K yea Chris suddenly thanking my lucky stars lol. I put some walls around his big ugly cage lookin thing and some trees, now it kind of blends with my own land so its livable.
And Olmy I didnt think of that good idea. Im actually not sure now whether to hope it stays the way it is or hope someone buys it. If it goes up as first land I'll want to buy it off whoever gets it so keepin my fingers crossed its someone willing to deal.
