It was kind of hard to read what you wrote, but if you think Second Life is all about money, you are wrong.
Money is important to some people, of course, but most people really don't care that much about it. That is why there are so many freebies and giveaways.
Second Life is about personal power, which is to say, friendship and influence. That is why there is so much D R A M A.
Money is just one more tool in the "game."

I had a hard time reading that as well.
I disagree on the "SL is all about money." SL reflects RL. Some people care alot about money or power or prestige, others don't. Personally, if I have enough money to pay for my modest vices, I am happy to spend the rest of my time fiddling with things that interest me or hanging with my friends... just like in RL.

You may be finding that all the articles about money, because this is the Land and Economy forums. Both of these things are closely connected to money. Land only is not connected to money when you are trying to figure out tricks of manipulating it, building it, or using it. In this forum, most topics are going to revolve around money. If you go to the general forum, people will be talking about almost everything but money. If you go to the Off-Topic forums, everyone is either discussing politics, religion, or something else unrelated to SL. If you go to the Building forum, you will find everyone talking about building. If you go to the scripting forum, you will find everyone talking about scripting. There are many things being discussed, but in the Land and Economy forum, expect to see things about money. If you don't care about money, land, or the economy, I suggest looking in the other forums.

Would someone translate the starting post to English?
Or maybe... nevermind. Not that important. I'll just skip it.

"All your base are belong to us." But, no, really, beyond Cranes is essentially correct: SL revolves around its currency, L$. Just about everything costs L$ and it's ridiculous. L$10 to upload a file? Come on... L$100 to start a group? Give me a freakin' break. Land is ridiculously expensive too (and prim counts are ridiculously low for what little land you CAN afford). There's no reason (other than greed) that the sim server software couldn't be released so ANYONE could run it (and not just as a separate island either). Active Worlds does it just fine. Granted, a lot more things are going on in a sim but Active Worlds worlds can be much MUCH larger than SL sims are. I like a lot about SL but its capitalistic greediness irks me. At least basic accounts are free now (though I should get one free since I had to pay $10 for one when I first signed up over a year ago!).

I have no intention of trying to earn or buy money in SL.
There simply is no reason for me to have it to enjoy the game. Occasionally I'll see something cool I like and buy it, usually as a gift. There is so much free content you really don't need very much cash.
I do see your point though.

From: Schwanson Schlegel There are over 129,000 active users in SL, what did you expect? To who are you replying to? And what do you mean by "active"? I know a few people with at least 2 accounts, and 1 person with, like, 6. Logging in once a month isn't what I'd call "active". Like Active Worlds citizenship #s, SL's user count isn't accurate...

From: Eep Quirk To who are you replying to? You. From: Eep Quirk And what do you mean by "active"? Not dead. From: Eep Quirk I know a few people with at least 2 accounts, and 1 person with, like, 6. Wow. From: Eep Quirk Logging in once a month isn't what I'd call "active". I suspect your definition is different than LL's.

Then I don't know what you mean by "what did you expect"? It helps to learn how to communicate better, Schwanson... My point about people having multiple accounts (since you seemed to miss it and reply with sarcasm instead) is that the 129,000+ user count isn't accurate. Hence, there are more like half that (64,500) users--if that. Of course it helps to know what LL considers "active": 1 login per month? 3 months? 6 months? Simply counting users, particularly lifetime basic accounts where there is only a 1-time charge (or not since 1st basic accounts are free), isn't an accurate count of ACTIVE users. Obviously, users who pay monthly (or via some other interval plan) can be counted as active (until they stop paying, of course). From: Schwanson Schlegel You.
Not dead.
Wow.
I suspect your definition is different than LL's.
