Land across sims

Newbie question here, forgive me. I have a 1024 plot of land which happens to border a sim. The 512 plot next to me has gone up for sale - not only would it make my plot into a better shape, but I am desperate for more prims. However, although it's adjacent to my 1024 plot, it's in a different sim. If I bought it, a) could I merge it with my existing plot and b) would it add to my prim allowance, or is this allocated per sim?

If someone could let me know what the situation is, I'd be grateful. :)

Hiii Clarissa, good question. Short answer: a) NO and b) NO -- combined prim allocations are on a per-sim basis... i.e. it won't let you add the 512's 117 prims onto the 1024 so you can rez a 300-prim object.

Hope this helpies. :)

Also if you build your house straddling a sim line you will fall through the floor!

I kid you not, for some reason it goes phantom and kaboom! :D

The fix for this is to place prims from both sims overlapping. This (I think) fools the engine into thinking the floor is solid. I haven't had to use feature this recently, so it may have been fixed (broken) in a more recent update.

Yes, you still have to do this. place a prim on either side of the sim line and make sure that both prims overlap on both sides.

The reason is simple, as you cross the sim border the physics gravity of the new sim takes over faster than the collision detection for the new prim you're supposed to be standing on, hence you drop through it.

If you only wish to walk in one direction between sims you could simply lower the floor prim in the second sim a small amount to catch you. But turning around to walk back again would still let you drop through the floor.

Sometimes it helps to have a thicker floor too. Falling through thin ones are bad but a thicker one might catch you enough to bounce you back up if you do fall through. :D

With sim seams known to have performance issues, I would be reluctant to work so hard at a workaround to enable a single build to be supported by two servers. Disregarding that, you still won't be able to share prims between the two parcels.
